Root Newbie question about backup

Is there a simple guide with terms and definitions that someone can point me to? I recently rooted my Droid X and can navigate my game databases, etc. because one one of my forum friends showed me, but other than that, because I really don't understand all the jargon -- flash, ROM, overclock, etc. - I don't know how to do much else because most of the explanations are Greek to me.

I downloaded Titanium Backup in order to back up my apps and data. But it seems it places the backup on the SD card. Since that's where my data is anyway, what's the point of putting a backup in the same place? How do I put it on my PC or other external device?

Flash or flashing something is the process of adding some sort of customization to your phone. A ROM is a custom version of Android made by developers. So "flashing a ROM" means changing your phone to a customized Android OS. This is all usually done in CWM, Clockwork Mod recovery.

Overclocking is just raising the speed at which the processor works.

Now to your backup question. I believe the folder named TitaniumBackup on your SD card holds your backups. I'd suggest to just leave it on the card for convenience sake.

If you want to know anything else, feel free to ask. You can also PM me or any of the Guides for help.

Thanks for the explanation. What does ROM stand for? I assume it's not Read-Only Memory... So what customized ROM is recommended and why?
