Hi and Welcome John!
On the default contact menu you cannot create groups for the contacts. However you could download an app from the Android Market that will allow your to do so.
Depending on where you bought your Arc you might have an app on the menu called Voice Search. If you do try to use that app to see if it works the way you want it to.
