i guess i posted my intro wrong, sorry for that. i have the zte merit android from straight talk , zte 990g, 2.3.5,z99b01, kernel-2.6.35.7 perf+zte-kern.zdroid-swt, build-z9906.v1.0.ob05, hardware-p5pd. im am tryibg to root this phone but dont even know where to start? not tech person . can anyone walk me through this step by step? any help would be great:confused:

depending on your reasons there are tons of threads on this site to help you root the phone.

But if you're not a "tech" person you may want to seriously consider doing so before diving into it...

trying to get rid of some bloatware, and want to slow down the cpu to get better batt life, hope i said that right . would like to be able to be my own admin of the phone:confused:

i realize that i could brick this phone if not careful but already put titanium backup on the phone just in case something happened. is that right

i myself dont know much about rooting. but you want to slow down the CPU for battery? you can try other battery optimizing tricks, but slowing down CPU is probably not what many people would want to do! it would kill the overall experience of your phone!

i would only do that if i were somewhere where it was necessary to do that without my phone dying. i would mainly do it for other uses, mainly to get all this bloatware off my phone and have some more internal storage without having to dump the apps i already have:confused:

if you want better battery life try Juice Defender or if you want more than that out of you batter try the Ultimate version

Unfortunately, Titanium Backup can't backup apps unless you have a rooted phone, so it can't help you out if things go awry.

Additionally, Titanium Backup can't help you out at all if you need to un-brick a device. The app is more used for you to backup your apps, so if you reinstall the OS on the phone, you can restore the apps easily. It doesn't backup the OS itself.

what is the ultimate version, i see that u have 3 that are rooted. can u shed a little light on how to do this or is it just a trade secret, lol thanbks:confused:

their are 3 versions of juice defender the free which just saves like on the basic, then juice defender plus which goes up a step, and then theirs the ultamite which saves battery everywhere it can.
and no it no secret i have all three im a phone junkie. but to get you started you should first research i found a thread you can read here but what i read the the ZTE Merit has a twin i guess on at&t called the avail but i would just double check that. and the rooting instructions are here make sure you research as things can go wrong but as long as you follow instructions you should be ok:cool:

I would love to my phone rooted to i have professional battery doctor,it wont let me forbid apps from auto starting, plus i gave several pre-installed and unwanted apps they take up alot of the storage space needed can anyone help me figure this out without having to use a pc.thanx
