I am new to the Android OS and need some guidance in setting up my 4.4 KitKat phone with Wi-Fi apps, utilities and tricks.

My phone is a Verizon LG Optimus Exceed 2 and my laptop is running Windows 10.

I would like to set up my phone as an extension of my laptop for Outlook 2007 pop email and calendar syncing, or whatever is most efficient.

Also, since I don’t intend to purchase cell service, I’d like to set up Wi-Fi calling.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To advise better on utilities we need to know a little more about what you want to do.

But a good starting point is always a file manager. A couple of my favorites:

System Panel is very handy :

Since you say you're going to rely on WiFi calling, a WiFi analyzer might come in handy:

You might try the email app that came on the phone first. But I don't know if it will sync your Outlook calendar.
AquaMail is my favorite email app and it will sync your Outlook calendar:

You might also want to check out Maildroid and K-9:

Hint: If you can upgrade your Outlook email from POP3 to IMAP I very hghly recommend you do so.

For WiFi calling you'll need Hangouts, the Hangouts Dialer and a Google Voice number because, well you have to have a phone number. If you have an old cell number you want to keep, you can port it to Google Voice.

There's other ways to do WiFi calling, but I've used this method and I know it works.
