Help News Feed on Home Screen

Hi, just bought the phone from Amazon.

Can you remove the news feed from the home screen? I go into Settings, Manage Applications - it only gives me option to force quit; but the news feed is still scrolling though headlines on my home screen.

How do I get rid of this?

Do I have to root the phone? (I have a Mac computer).

Tired of being forced to look at news headlines on my home screen.

Are you saying that there is the news widget on your screen that you want to remove . If yes then remove it by long pressing it and dragging it to the trash icon.

It seems like you're talking about news widget. As above post,

On your home screen, touch and hold that widget, when it vibrates, drag it into the 'Red Trash Icon'.
If you want to set onther widget, touch and hold any empty place on home screen and a window will appear form the bottom of the screen. Touch of any of them and it'll be placed on your screen automatically. If you want to place it on other place, touch and hold it, when it vibrates, place it anywhere you want by dragging.
