Help News & News Widget *Stock*

Does anybody know how to get the news to work on the stock News app? I'm not sure how to add subscriptions or search for them to add?

Or is there a better News app out there with a decent free widget for top stories?

Flipboard is good and has a homescreen widget...I use it all the time
