Nexus 4 alternative ?

I recently bought a Samsung galaxy s3 mini and it is wonderful but Samsung is not going to update it to 4.3 or higher in the future to come despite it only being about 1 year old.
This is very upsetting and has turned me away from Samsung mobile devices period, rather simple

My Dad is wanting a new phone but he is ill and cant afford one out right so I'm going to give it to him and he just pay me back when he can in small sums, but I can only do this if I find a suitable replacement for myself.

I'm looking for a new phone that performs well and I saw the Nexus 4 is

I wouldn't worry too much about not getting the latest version of Android: all the cool stuff is now released in the apps via the Play Store, not in the OS so you're only missing out on under-the-hood stuff. I can barely tell the difference between 4.2 and 4.3.

Re the N4: there's nothing even comes close on price-for-spec. Period. That may change next week when the N5 is expected to be announced, of course

I have a 16GB N4 and it has plenty of space for me. I suspect your dad is likely to need a lot less space than you do: chances are the 16GB version (if it's stll avialable - they sold out weeks ago in the US) would most likely be fine.

Hmm the Samsung S4 mini might be worth a look, its running a pretty fast dual core with krait 300 cores and has the removable battery/SD card.

they are about to release the Nexus 5 soon which is suppose to have a 32GB option, not sure if that would be enough but it should be priced near the N4 prices.
