Hi everybody just switched to tmo and got the nexus 4 . quick question would appreciate any help. My gf charges her phone on the computer's USB. She put it to charge at 3% in 20 minutes it got to 10% is that slow?. If it is ... Any way to speed it up by any chance ?
Thank you ,
Anthony

Many motherboard manufacturers offer boosted USB current to the ports and advertise this feature. It makes for much faster charging, similar to AC output levels. My Gigabyte motherboard is just such an animal.

USB ports have to abide by agreed standards. They should not exceed various limits for current if they are to adhere to the USB specifications.

While it is certainly safe to use the charger that came with the Nexus 4, in no way is it the safest or fastest charger on the planet for these devices.

After all, low cost extras thrown in with the device. Those with money to burn can buy intelligent chargers that can detect what is going on and respond accordingly. Of course, not all chargers that market themselves as "intelligent" really are that smart.

I can't see much point in using a PC to charge anything. It may be safe but is less efficient than a purpose built charger and saps the power available to the PC to do its thing, especially if the power supply is at the bottom of the range.

I know in a few custom roms/kernels theres a way to make the phone think a usb connection is AC, but I'm not sure if it actually charges any faster.

I charge off of a USB Hub that has it's own power supply.

The IT guy where I work told me the other day that he has replaced quite a few motherboards because the USB circuit is susceptible blowing from charging your personal devices. Not sure if it is true or not, but something think about.
