Nexus 4 display vs others...

Was running errands with my girlfriend today and decided to go in the Sprint store and check out the HTC one and the S4. I was really expecting to be wowed by the displays of both phones as compared to my n4 and left feeling my nexus looks far better than both. All phones were on auto brightness and the n4 appears much sharper, brighter, and more accurate color representation. I suppose its another case of where the specs don't reflect actual performance. LG's displays are pretty stunning.

Overall I was just pretty surprised seeing all 3 side by side.

I personally thought the S4 display was weakest of the lot. Neither the One or the S4 have the wow factor or pop the Nexus 4 has. They appeared dull and off color.

Aside from the displays I was surprised by the amount of lag the S4 had. Just when scrolling home screens. Smh.

I wasn't surprised by how horrible looking and non-user friendly the sense ui is on the one. And touchwiz is just as vomit inducing as its always been. Looks the same cartooony ugly as it did back in the Froyo days.

Aside from that they're fantastic phones! Especially if you're stuck on contract. Good to know you're not missing anything if you own a nexus 4.

I think to some extent it's a question of taste: some people prefer the colour saturation of the S4 while others prefer the more natural tones of the N4 .. apparently.

Have to say, I never really think of myself as 'missing out' having an N4 .. I'm sure the other phones are terrific, but I'm happy with what I have .. :D

Strange thing is, the reviews I've seen for the S4 have all been a bit "meh" - people really don't seem that impressed. Not that they've slammed it, just not been wowed by it. The reviews I saw for the HTC One, on the other hand were almost embarrassingly glowing. Enyet, we all know which one will sell ..

Having had a look at the HTC One at the weekend, I feel that it is better than the N4 - a little less washed out looking. I prefer the N4 to the SGS4 though.

I have the SGS3 and the N4 and I've compared both screens on many images and have noticed that the blacks on the SGS3 are what they should be, Black. Whereas, on the N4, Blacks are grey. I put the same pure black wallpaper with the Nexus X in the middle on both phones and the difference was striking. I did this in a dark room and the N4 lit the room with its light coming off the "black" wallpaper. The SGS3 barely lit anything with the "X" being the only lightsourse.

The difference is in the display types. The SGS3 is SuperAMOLED and if it's black, there is no power going to the display, thus it's "off", so the only power was going to the Nexus X. On the LG display, it's all lit up because it's not the same tech. For me, this gives the SGS3 the edge as I like darker wallpapers.

If we are talking about regular images, the N4 has an amazing screen and I love it but I think the SGS3 and N4 are 50/50 on screen.

I think this is a case of seeing what you wanted to see. The color calibration on the n4 screens is way off. Theres plenty of videos on you tube showing this. Erica griffin actually does a great job of showing this in her nexus 4 review and unboxing. I can see some people not liking the s4 screen as it an amoled display with pentile technology. And samsung being samsung loves to over saturate colors like crazy on there amoled displays but the s4 is leaps and bounds better than the s3 and the color saturation isnt as bad. Not to mention the black clipping problem that was on the s3 is gone on the s4. But the htc one with its true 1080p hd lcd panel destroys the n4. Sorry it just does. The color calibration on it is almost flawless it almost looks as though the screen was painted on there. It truly is a beautiful display. The n4 isnt a terrible display at all but it does have its issues. On that list of the s4 the htc one and the n4 it is by far a distant 3rd. I personally love amoled displays and am a samsung guy and i even admit right now the htc one is by far the best display on the market with the s4 second.
