Hello
Recently i have been having a problem transferring files specifically video files from my pc to my Nexus 5.The problem is that file transfer seems to starts off fine but near the end just stops and says something like 15 seconds remaining but never finishes. I tried using different usb ports and wires but that hasn't helped. I dont think its a problem with my computer because I tried copying the same file to a flash drive and different phone(nexus 4) and had no issues.I've also tried usb debugging but that didn't do anything.I haven't had this issue before and this only started happening recently. If it makes any difference im not rooted and i bought the phone new.

This definitely seems to be a problem with the N5 or with KitKat. It's become an even larger problem since on newer versions of android, where they have removed the USB mass storage capability.

Couple things you can try:
Moving smaller files at a single time or break your larger files into smaller ones.
Sometimes when a file/folders name is too long it will cause problems transferring. Try renaming the file/folder to something with a shorter name.
Try using WiFi transfer feature or airdroid.
Try a cloud based storage.. I use "One Drive" but there are many out there that you can use.

If your rooted
You can use "adb commands" to push the files from your PC to your N5.
Use an OTG (on the go) USB and cable to transfer files.
You'll also need an app like "Stick Mount" to enable OTG. This allows you to connect a flash drive or SD card reader to your N5 via the USB port.
This is one of the easiest methods to transfer larger files to your N5 or you can even just keep the files on the flash drive/card reader and use them directly on your N5 without having to move the files off the flash drive and onto your N5. OTG is the closest you'll get to USB mass storage.

Hope this helps!

Well renaming the folder/file to a shorter name and transferring one file at a time didn' help. I was wondering if factory resetting my phone would help?

I highly doubt that would be the fix. I'm mean you could try it but I really don't think that's the issue.
Try restarting your N5 and your PC.
I would also check the driver configuration on your PC. Something may have changed or and update may have even caused the problem. There's a program called Wugfresh tool kit, and it has a driver program that will allow you to find all the drivers installed on your PC for your N5 and allow you to delete them and then reinstall all the proper drivers. It's also for unlocking the bootloader, flashing a recovery and rooting the N5 but you don't have to do any of that to use the driver program... Unless you want to.
You might want to look at that.
Nexus Root Toolkit v1.8.2 | WugFresh

So i downloaded the toolkit, deleted all the nexus 5 drivers, restarted both my pc and my nexus 5 and the problem is still there. I dont know what else to do

OK try this:
Connect your N5 to your PC and then use your PC and navigate to the folder that your using to put your transfered files into. Right click on that folder and select delete. (This will delete the folder and its contents so you might want to save any of the files you have in it) Then Right click on an empty space and create a new folder and name it exactly the same as the one you deleted.

I just finished factory resetting and it seems to have done the trick but then again even before it would work sometimes I'll update if the thread if the problem comes up again thanks for your help.

Yes keep me updated and I'll see if I can maybe come up with any more solutions or troubleshooting for you.

Try using something like AirDroid and transferring over wifi. That's what I had to do with my first N5, it's a bit slower but worked for me. My second N5 is fine over USB.

i know that you already have the problem solved and you said that you tried different usb ports, but was any of the problematic transfers were done on usb 3 ports? sometimes nexus 5 does not play nice with latest usb ports.
