Android Question

So I was trying to hook up my phone to a friend's surround sound system. I saw an audio jack cable and without thinking plugged it into my phone. Sound didn't come out of the speakers and when trying to determine why, I realized that the audio jack cable that I used was actually a split cable from the subwoofer. So I assume one end hooked the subwoofer up to whatever else and I grabbed the other end. Since then my phone speakers haven't been working properly. If I try to change the volume of the ringtone etc the sound works fine, but during calls it only works if I put on speakerphone and when I plug in headphones or other speakers sound only comes out of the right speaker/earbud.

I have no idea what to do. I tried googling but haven't found someone with a similar enough situation. I'm on vacation so I'm also limited to when I have a (slow) wifi connection, which makes it hard to do a lot of digging.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I also posted this question in the Nexus thread. If I should post it somewhere else or should add some more information please let me know.

You plugged an amplifier output jack that drives a subwoofer into your phone's headset jack, and now the phone doesn't work properly. Unfortunately I think you might have blown something up in the phone by doing that.

That's what I thought but then because it works fine on speaker I thought it might be something else. Is it possible to blow only one side of the speaker or...I don't know how to explain it. But plugging it into speakers one side works fine....

Anyways thanks for replying.

I suspect it's the left channel that's not working? Subwoofers are usually only wired for mono(tip only), which is the left channel on a stereo headset jack. It's very likely the phone's headset amp chip is blown, which could mean it might need a whole new logic-board if it's not a separate module.

IMO it's a bad design on the part of the sound system, to be using regular headphone jacks for loudspeaker subwoofer outputs. They should really be using something different that can't be inadvertently plugged into headset outputs, like RCA plugs or something.
