Help Nexus 6 Camera Discussion

Lurker
I can't find whether or not the Nexus 6 can shoot in slow motion? I actually use this feature quite often (because my golf swing sucks:) I just need quality about as good as my GS4.
If the Nexus 6 can not do this, what would you recommend as the next best Android phone to purchase? Moto X ? (I'm on AT&T, so the Droid Turbo isn't an option.)
Thanks for any help.

Not sure if the guy is supposed to release any pics but he did post a couple he took with the NexSix Nexus 6 Camera Samples - Pg. 13 | Nexus 6 | XDA Forums

Edit: The whole thread is worth looking thru. Some pics I haven't seen yet. One or two of the videos are probably fake.

The link to a Google+ post on the first page of the thread leads to nothing. I guess they were taken down. The shots later in the thread look ok, though I'll take em with a grain of salt for now. Most of them look soft, and the jack-o-lantern night shots are pretty rough. Granted I know they're formatted/compressed for the web and all that.

I got a chance to play around with a friend's N6 yesterday. The pictures are pretty nice. Natural colors etc. Only issue is with low light images - terrible. My N5 got slightly better pictures than the N6 in low-light (same lighting, same location). I do expect better software to enable better pictures on the N6 though, since it supposedly has better hardware/sensor. (Another friend's Note 4 got significantly better low light pictures in the same location/lighting)

Edit: these 'tests' were done without flash

I can say as someone who had the n5 for a year and the n6 now the n6 is way better in low light

When you say low light, how low are you talking about? Indoor lighting? or lower? (N6 did fairly good with indoor lighting - comparable, or maybe even slightly better than my N5). In my experience, the N6 did rather poorly when we were trying to take some pictures outdoors (dark - 7:30pm, with no flash/direct light). The Note4's camera was just leaps and bounds better, but even the N5 would at least show the faces. With the N6, it was hard to even make out the outline of the people. With the flash, it was about the same for all the cameras.

I should have some pictures to share next week after I get my N6 :)

My friend (with the N6) sent me a low light picture using the L camera app - WOW! Now that is amazing (even compared to the Note 4)

The camera seems pretty good overall, or at least the hardware is. The camera app, however, needs a lot of work. Takes forever to launch, and some of the more useful features like HDR are useless because they take so long to process. For a Nexus device, we've come a long way. For smartphones, still way behind the curve.

I've never used the Note 4. I'll be doing some comparison shots with my review of the Nexus 6 against the iPhone 6. I believe both are good in different scenarios.

Checked out your preview posts over on G+. The camera looks amazing, especially the HDR shots. I'll be more than happy with it.

Just noticed you are the same guy who posted the pics over on reddit. Once again....greetings, from Altoona! HA

Low light, stock camera, no flash, no HDR.

Wanted to chime in. The Nexus 6 has major focus issues. Half of photos are unusable. I would switch to the Galaxy S6 if the battery were decent.

launch day goog stock never rooted. no issues with focus. never. i use this sensor in hdr mode most of the time when i dont have my uber expensive dslr with me, and have not had a bad image yet...

Any possible way of doing this on a Nexus 6? I have a Nexus 6 and like it everywhere but lack of slo-mo. Don't want to have to get a different phone just for this.

The stock camera does not have solo motion video out of the box.

The hardware is there but not implemented it seems.

You can hack into the camera (beyond the scope of this post) if you are handy with that sort of thing, or find a api for it on the Internet.
