Nexus 7 2012 to get 5.0 Lollipop

My Nexus 7 refuses to update. Still thinks KitKat is the newest version. Starting to piss me off. Why can't they make it like iOS and be there on day of release?
 
It will come in due time. It is one of the larger OTAs I've received coming in at 313MB, so it will take a while to get to everyone. I still don't have it on my 2013 N7, just the 2012 one. As far as iOS goes, Android offers a far richer and more advanced feature set IMO.

Every time iOS is updated, all I hear from my ifriends is how borked the rollout has been, 3-4 hour downloads, bricked devices etc.

Staggered is best. That way if there is a device bricking bug, they can stop the rollout to fix before it hits every device.
 
I would not recommend updating Nexus 7 (2012) to 5.0. I've done it and now I'm going back to KitKat (4.4.4).

The experience is painful: very slow, many applications just are so slow that make them unusable (Flipboard, Chrome). Not to talk about the keyboard: sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds to appear!

And I did a clean install, with a factory reset and fastboot to install Lollipop.

So, I'm going back to 4.4.4 until something better happens with 5.0 for Nexus 7 (2012).

I wouldn't say pulled but I have read that they are problems and they have suspended the roll out but I think it is just nexus android machines

I meant for the v1 nexus 7.

Not having any issues on my Nexus 5. Really loving lollipop.

I had the same experience until I did a factory data reset. I took a full Helium backup first. Once the tablet booted after the FDR, I answered YES re restoring Google apps. It installed exactly TWO apps and then stopped (no error). Once that happened, the tablet was unusable. The lag was gone, but so was my wifi, and this is a wifi-only tablet. This is AFTER the first-boot wifi check, which verified that everything was fine with my connection. At first I attributed this to the fact I had deselected the last two options when going thru initial setup, post-FDR (wifi ON even when not in use, and usage statistics). I reset a second time, thinking that it expects all defaults (figured I could change my selections later). Same thing happened - two apps, and then no wifi! Since the problem occurred after the Google restore of two apps (the same two apps, since it appeared to be going in alphabetic order), I decided to try one more FDR, but this time chose not to let Google restore apps (i.e., setup as new device). It seemed to work, and everything was still snappy and smooth, so I decided to try installing some apps individually. It still worked. Then I took the plunge and installed the two apps that had seemingly killed it before. Hallelujah, everything still worked!

It was a tedious process to download apps one by one and then restore app data from Helium, but in the end it was worth it. It's a PITA, but I highly recommend you doing the same. The only remaining issue I have is that some screen elements are ridiculously huge now. For example, app icons in Play store are almost a full inch in diameter, and some screen text wraps unnaturally (for example, the sub-menu window that appears when you long-press the network you're connected to in System settings > Wi-Fi > Modify network > Advanced options). It's almost as though they have the wrong DPI specified in the Nexus 7 Lollipop image. Fingers crossed that this will be resolved in a "fix" update OTA. If not, I'll be rooting and fixing it myself.
 
Guys, I just updated and lollipop is awesome! Seriously, if you don't have it, GET IT! It's like a new OS in my opinion.

You are one lucky person! BTW. just what is BETTER after the update?
I've had to do a factory rest and was kinda pleased... for about two days. My tablet slowly returning to brickdom.
How does one get rid of Lollipop and return to a previous version?
(sent from my PC. My tablet surely wouldn't keep running long enough to send this!) lol

Maybye you can use adb to flash an older OTA update?

Tried that, same deal as the poster you quoted. It didn't help... So now instead of 200 apps I can't use, I now have 40 apps I can't use.

Developer mode and limiting background processes to 2 seemseems to be the main advice on the official Google nexus lollipop threads
 
Work around until the culprit is found.

Facebook, and a few other apps seem to be the cause.

Can't wait for the OTA to go live again

Regarding returning to a previous version, if you don't mind a factory reset you can use Wugfresh Toolkit to return to any previous (or indeed future) version. When running the Toolkit use the 'Change..." button to set it to whatever version you would like - say 4.4.4. When it tells you it has auto-detected a version error it will offer to correct it - just say "No". You can then use "Flash Stock and unroot" to flash your chosen version. This works to go from 4.4.4 to 5.0 as well - just tell it you're already on 5.0 and then flash as above. (I hope this isn't "teaching my grandma to suck eggs!").
