Help Nexus 7 Hard Reset

willter12

Lurker
I have read that a hard reset is activated by:

1. Turn off.
2. Hold vol up/vol down/power on
3. Select Recovery using vol buttons and press power button
4. After several minutes, screen with red triangle will appear
5. Hold volume up and press return for menu to make hard reset

All goes well til #4. Here I get blank screen showing "Google" and it never moves into the red triangle picture and just freezes. I have waited over 20 minutes for the boot into recovery menu and nothing happens.

Have I missed a step or is something wrong? If onboard recovery process is broke is there a way to fix it? I would like to have access to hard reset should something dire go wrong.

No I am not rooted nor have I tried to root and have only loaded apps at this point.
Everything else is working fine and this appears to be an excellent device.

Thanks for any advice....

Go to settings, back up and reset, factory reset, then it'll turn off. And when u turn it on again, you set everything back up. Hope this helps

Welcome to the forums willter. :ciao:

Are you doing this with the USB plugged into your computer? If not, try that.

If you are really stuck you can try the Nexus 7 Root Toolkit on a PC with the N7 connected and proper drivers installed after you locate the 4.1.1 factory image. Try the unroot options. If you don't want to bother finding the 4.1.1 image, just let the Root Toolkit download 4.1 and you will be back up and running to update the tab via settings to 4.1.1 via Google direct. Admitedly this might be difficult unless you already had the PC setup with ADB drivers.

hi i am also stuck at the same thing and i downloaded the toolkit but i cant find what to do from there

Does this do anything different to a factory reset?

Surely this approach is only if for some reason you cannot boot the Nexus up or cannot get to the factory reset option?

For the record, I have tried it myself and have the same thing, just hangs at the Google logo and no triangle.
