Nexus 7 mini-speaker power consumtion

My Nexus 7's right speaker is broken (it no longer plays sound but just tin can noise) so I crack open it and cut the right speaker's wire, now I can use the left speaker normally.

I found some spare speakers from online sellers for $20 or so, it's not expensive and replacing the speaker set is easy, but what makes me think is that I rarely use the built-in speakers, I prefer earphones for higher quality sounds when it comes to watch movies, music clips..., so maybe I just leave it like that and save a little battery power when I use it for for apps that don't really require better sounds (cartoons, news, youtube...) ?

What do you think ?

I'd leave it as-is rather than keep opening it up. How did you wreck the speakers you had?

I really like this cheap bluetooth speaker and sometimes use it with a tablet. (I don't listen to music or watch movies on a tablet or laptop.) HI-FI Super Bass Bluetooth / TF / Handsfree Phone Intelligent Voice Speaker - Red - Speakers & Microphones

Thanks, I will look into Bluetooth speakers.

Regarding the N7's broken speaker, I believe the daily alarms killed it, I always set multiple alarms on the morning and at the highest volume, for an unknown reason the right speaker always takes 2/3 of the volume and the left speaker takes the rest, now the right speaker is dead I virtually hear nothing from the left speaker unless in a quiet room.

Lesson learned the hard way, so as precaution, don't abuse your N7's alarm and don't use high volume for a prolonged perioed of time, when I took the speaker out of the board they look somewhat fragile.

Are you saying you are tough to wake up? :D

I'm just the opposite... lousy sleeper and nearly always shut off the alarm before it goes off. The alarm only wakes me if I'm drugged (sleeping pill).

Yes the alarm is mainly used to wake... my wife up so that she can wake me up accordingly (we have toddlers so we used to sleep in different rooms) :D
