Help Nexus 7 Power-On Issue

My 7 had a strange power-on issue and I'd like to poll the group to see if it's abnormal.

I power it completely off. Then, to power it back on, I simply push the power button. Done. It should then boot-up. Right? Well, mine wouldn't. Dead.

I can eventually get it to come back up but only after numerous tries at pushing the power button.

Is there something I'm missing? Some secret series of power button pushes? A Gandalf-like elven incantation or Merlin's Charm of Making while pushing and holding the button perhaps?

I was within the grace period and given the new 32GB version will go on sale at Staples next Monday (29th) I did just that.

had the same problem with my first after it had updated itself. Took it back to Comet who gave me a new one. same thing happened to that after it too had updated itself. I have found that if I hold the power button down fow a long time; about 10-15 seconds, it powers up.
I am sure it is a probelm with the update.

I've been having the same issue as well. First time it happened it took me several minutes and several attempts to get it back up and running. Now, I think it happens each time I turn off the device. I honestly couldn't tell you, I haven't turned it off since the 4.1.2 update because I'm afraid it won't turn back on.

Yeah I see this sometimes too. Also happens with my GNex from time to time. But just a minor annoyance, (so far, knock on wood).

With mine completely powered off I have always had to hold the power buttong for 5-7 seconds to power on, even before the update.

I tried various combinations included holding the power button down for ten seconds. It seems to just sort-of randomly decide to wake up as there wasn't any repeatable procedure I could find to get it to power-up reliably. It's a power-on button, we shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get it going and if there some special way to do it it should be documented. Then maual said something like 'hold for a few seconds'. I quit at ten seconds cause that's too freaking long.

I'm discouraged to see several others others with this issue. I may not be buying the 32GB version after-all.

When got ours it would not charge or power up. Popped off the back, unplugged the battery wiped the contacts off with a soft cloth. Put it back together powered it up & charged it with no problems. :)

It may be that you hold the button on for 5-7 seconds and then wait ... if you hold it longer or press again too soon it turns back off. It also pauses as it does some internal housekeeping from time to time so let it run a little. I pressed too long to put it to sleep and had to wait a while after pressing it a few times to figure out if it was starting up or turning off.

All i do is press the power button and count to myself 1,2,3,4 and let it go and the Google sign comes up and it continues to boot ok. Have only had it for a week, but it has worked every time i have done it.
