Nexus 7 vs ASUS Transformer

Ok I really want to buy a tablet. I like watching Netfilx on my HTC EVO V 4G (really just a HTC 3D) but ever since I got around to watching some movies and playing some games on a iPad, I want a bigger screen. Now I wish I could have a GNote(kinda like a tablet phone) but none on a good prepaid network.

So my question is which do you like more and which would you recommend for a first time tablet user?

Nexus 7 is pure Android at a 7" screen. Transformer is going to be the next best option of almost pure Android in a bigger screen.

I have a Nexus 7, and Galaxy Tab 10.1. I don't mind TouchWiz but neither one is on a network so just Wifi. The Nexus 7 seems crisper but I have no figures to back that up. Currently I'm in a bitter battle between the two and the only one suffering is my cell phone itself. I actually only use it to make calls now.

So many options and I probably just confused you even more. Sorry dude.

XD yeah I bet once I get a Tablet I will only use my phone as a phone. And I rather the tablet by Wifi only. But I think the two are both Wifi only. Idk I think the 7in may be to small. A friend has a Samsung Galaxy Tab and that's 7in and seems small. But Idk I might have to try out the nexus 7 before I buy one.

I think it also depends on your vision too. A super clear smaller screen looks better than a larger screen with less resolution.

I completely agree. I like my 7" tab for the sheer portability. At home my 10" tab is just a tab with a bigger screen but I feel much better using it at home.

The 7inch tablets is one of the better form factors. Its portable enough to always carry around, its easier to game on (one of my friends with an iPad mentioned how its easier to play Inotia 4 on my Tab 7 Plus) and has a better PPI than any tablet not named iPad3/New iPad.

The only caveat I have is its not as easy to read books on. Although of course this depends on what books you are reading. As I read medical textbooks, its quite a bit more difficult on a 7inch tab than on a 10.1 where the screen is almost the size of the book so you can see the entire PDF page in one go.

I am thinking of going with the Nexus 7 but Idk. I think I may need to see both in person before I can decide.

I have both and honestly much prefer my N7 for its size and portability. Both are awesome devices but the Prime is more a laptop replacement while the N7 is just a consumption device.

I am looking for something to replace my laptop. Since my phone is doing that now.

I would definitely go with the Prime then with the keyboard docking station.
Sure you don't want to hear it, but you may want to wait and see what the Microsoft Surface tablets will be priced at. Those basically ARE laptop replacements.

Yeah but that will have metro and I'm not a fan of Metro.

I have the Transformer Prime and Nexus 7, the Transformer Prime is now on ebay.

It's no contest imo, one is heavy and awkward to use while the other is light, comfortable to use and allot more portable.

If anything I think the Nexus 7 is also a little faster, from what I've read it uses DDR3 memory so it has increased memory bandwidth.

I guess I'm the complete opposite from the average user here. I've used a few 7" tablets and a few 10.1" tablets. 10.1" is my form-factor of choice. Especially now that I have a keyboard dock, it's like a mini-laptop that runs Android. The Infinity has a good clarity and resolution, too, and is just shy of the iPad DPI.

As for portability, I can't really say. Sure, a 7" tablet will fit in bags better than a 10.1" tablet. But meh...it's small enough to fit in everything I have to carry it.

I have a Nexus 7 and Transformer Infinity. For watching videos, web surfing, etc, the Infinity is better. Otherwise, Jelly Bean makes the Nexus 7 fly (granted, the Infinity should be getting a JB update soon). I also like the dimpled rubbery backing on the Nexus 7. It feels really nice in your hands. The Infinity is so slippery I'm afraid I'll drop the darned thing and unlike the iPad, there's not a long of case options to choose from. The Nexus 7 is also light enough not to strain your arm if you tend to hold it for long periods of time (e.g. during marathon comic reading sessions).

If I had to choose one just, I'd pick the Transformer, though. Overall, I think the Nexus 7 is a nicer device (particular when you consider updates come directly from Google) but the Transformer is more versatile given its bigger screen and the lack of a microSD card slot is a big detractor.
