Nexus 7 worth it?

Rarefall

Lurker
I have an iPhone 4S and have just got rid of my original iPad. I want a new tablet and with Google officially releasing the Nexus 7, I was wondering whether it was worth it.

Well for starters is 16GB enough, or do I need to get the 32GB? Sure i'll be storing a few movies on there, but they could always be on an external device using usb on the go. Also what's this about screen lifting i've been hearing about? Where's the best place to buy from (UK)? Is it hard migrating from a 10" iOS device to a 7" android device? Is android updated often, so will I be able to upgrade my device past 4.2 (when it's out?). Will it need a case, I like having my devices with out one but I can settle for one I suppose (recommendations?). Does android need an anti-virus?

My biggest worry however is buying it and then in a months time they release a brand new one with better specs (at least with apple, they release one every year and I know the small spec increase wont bother me) so are there any tablets in the planning besides the N10 (including non nexus tablets)

Sorry for rambling, never owned android before

Welcome to the forums! :D

You should absolutely get the nexus 7. I'll attempt to answer most of the questions you've asked.

The screen lift issue was a problem with some of the earlier builds having the screen ever so slightly lift on the left side. Mine had it, and its honestly not an issue. Its been fixed in recent productions.

The 7" form factor is much better than 10" if you ask me. You can use it with 1 hand and its much more portable.

Your device will get updates straight from google for a very long time. It'll get 4.2 pretty much the same day as the nexus 4 phones with it go on sale.

No, it doesnt need a case, and no, no virus protection is needed. While apple releases one every year, thats not the case with google. Thats not to say someone else wont make a better one, because this is technology we're talking about, but the nexus 7 has some great specs and will remain a top of the line choice for a small price tag for a long time

Hell yeah its worth it $199 16gb of android tablet goodness, I'd take it over any apple product

I'll echo everything else said and add that for an extra $50 (I have no idea what the difference is in the UK) it was well worth having the extra memory. Without rooting, you won't be able to write data to a USB stick so that may be factor depending on what you want to use it for.

I rooted mine as practice for the N4 when I get it cause we all know the memory management will be an issue on that device (limited to 16gig).

Great tablet. My G/F has a 3rd generation iPad and, having the choice to use either, I always grab the N7 cause of it's more confortable size. it is literally perfect for reading e-books.

Rare,

I think 16GB is enough space, but 32GB is better especially if you are planning on storing photo and music files on the N7. I have learned to live with 16GB and am satisfied with it; I just keep most of my videos on a separate 32GB USB drive. Currently, I have a around 100 jpg pictures, 8 movies and a minimal amount of music (using 8.4GB), lots of apps and a few thousand contacts (2.4GB) and still have 1.6GB unused and available. The system also uses about 2.75GB.

+2 agree, well worth it. A powerful fast tablet, nice display and a reasonable cost. What it lacks (rear camera, HDMI connectability) are non-issues for me.
