Nexus One App Memory - what's using it (besides apps)?

I know this has been raised before but I haven't seen a straight answer to this question:

-- What is using my Androids app memory allocation?

Before you tell me about cache and everything else here's what I've got:

  • I have APP2SD. Shows Memory Total: 196.25MB Avail. 25.84MB
  • All apps that can be, have been moved to SD card
  • Apps left on phone are 82.08 MB
  • I have 7MB contact data
  • I have CacheCleanerNG - cleared all caches
  • I have ten short text messages on the phone at the moment
  • I'm using GMAIL and Exchange - no messages in either inbox currently
So I'm using 89 out of 196MB. What I'm trying to find out is not how I can improve on the above, it's all done, but what is using the other 107MB?

If anyone can answer this question I'd be very grateful.

If anyone is looking at this thread hope this helps. I've defaulted the Android and restored some apps. I've noticed two things:

  • The App size shown does not necessarily reflect how much memory the app uses
  • Moving to SD card does not free up all the app memory
I suspect there are memory leak/residual memory issues and that wiping the phone every few months may not be a bad thing.

Here's what I've done so far:

Defaulted the Android. Came up on 2.2.1
Checked the memory immediately after default.
Remaining: 178MB
Checked again.
Remaining: 177MB (lost a MB already)

Added my Google account details
Setup Wifi
Connect to Market
Remaining: 176MB

Opened Market, automatic updates came down.
Market 3MB
AppBrain 1.7MB
Gmail 4.23M
Google Maps 9MB
Sync Google Contacts 6.82MB (I sync my CRM so there's a lot)
Total: 24.75MB
Remaining: 152MB

Install APP2SD 0.1MB
Remaining: 151MB

Move AppBrain and App2SD to SD
Remaining: 152.18MB

Install SlideIT Keyboard 1MB on market
2.23MB when installed
Remaining: 149.81MB

Launcher Pro 3.54MB
Remaining: 146.18

Set Exchange mail to Push, 3 days and all options checked Contacts, calendar etc.
(no emails in my inbox)
Remaining: 146.16MB

Install aCar 2MB on Market, 3MB when installed
Remaining: 142.81MB
Restored backup for acar
Remaining: 142.73MB

Install Daily Expense Manager 1.176MB
Remaining: 141.34MB

Install Ultramate Diary 2MB on Market 2.28MB when installed
Remaining: 137.91MB - there's a MB disappeared
Install Ultramate Key 10kb
Remaining: 137.84MB
Remaining: 137.71MB after restoring Ultramate backup to SD

Installed Trip Journal Lite 6MB on Market 8.15MB installed
Remaining: 129.46MB
Move 2 SD
Remaining: 135.37MB Lost 2MB?

Power the phone off and on.

Remaining: 137.15MB

Moving to SD card does not free up all the app memory
Yeah, a lot of apps leave a part of the app on the phone so that it's easier/faster to access that info to load when you launch the app. Versus having all of the info on SD card. Also, apps with widgets will have part of the codes on the phone because the way widgets are programed. So the widgets won't work if it's on the SD card.

This.

If you are rooted, you can use dark's app2sd to move the dalvik cache to SD, I have over 100 apps installed with about 30mb left

Any errors, FC or other weirdness? Does the phone perform noticeably slower? What version or ROM are you using? This looks like a great idea but there must be a trade-off.
