Help NEXUS ONE GPS accuracy

O.k to a lot of you this will be a very dumb question but never the less i need a bit more education on the smartphone gps before i go out and buy one.

I was looking for a phone with sat nav capability but like a lot of people want to keep price to a minimum.

i do believe that GPS is a free service where if the phone has the maps stored on

and that AGPS is internet access mapping service so you get charged for data streaming.

IF i am correct can someone confirm it for me.
and second of all does the nexus one have built in maps so you can use it as a free bog standard sat nav without useing any data transfer.

If i am compleatly out of the loop here please dont be sarky with me and try and educate this dinasaurs brain.

thanks

The phone will use Data when routing to download parts of the map; you can't get (yet?) a map pack for your device as far as I know.

Also generally speaking having no service will yield no results; however this past weekend, I was in the woods camping with no service and I still had maps; so im assuming it caches some portion, but if you start with no service and drive you will likely have an issue.
