This definitely caught my attention:
Interesting to note the most expensive elements:

  • $30 – Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor
  • $23 – AMOLED Display from Samsung
  • $20 – 4GB Nand Flash from Samsung
  • $17 – Capacitive touchscreen from Synaptics

If a snapdragon was that cheap, why isn't it in more phones?
Also, can't you buy a 4GB SD card for less than that retail?

...not bashing the validity of the report--these are honest questions.

Are those prices what it would cost Joe Schmoe to buy single units of or is that the actual per unit cost HTC/Google paid? Because I would imagine the cost would come down quite a bit for a company ordering a million parts of something...

Exactly, that's most likely the cost per unit assuming a very large order is placed.

$30 for a 1Ghz Snapdragon? Hell, if buying more is going to result in much better returns the next-gen iPhone is sure to have a 1+ Ghz Snapdragon/OMAP processor in mid-2010 and each processor would be like $25 a pop! (assuming the discount can only go down so much before the manufacturer starts reaching the 0-profit margin)
