Nexus One UI

Can anyone tell me if the nexus one will support exchange. I bought the phone but I would really like to get my work email on it also

Furthermore, according to the press event today, it's not even likely that the Hero/Eris have the hardware to run 2.1, much less 2.1 + Sense. Both Sanjay and Peter Chou noted that not all phones can or will be getting 2.1 because their chipsets can't handle some of the 3D elements in 2.1.

First, the original post of that thread was just reporting what Rubin said in the Press Event. It was unclear whether VZW was getting a locked or unlocked version. He danced around the topic until it was posed again later in the event. I posted the original post to get the news out to the forum. When Rubin DID clarify that the CDMA version would be LOCKED, I posted another post to make it clear that it would be with Verizon service under a locked agreement.

Second, in response to the Hero 2.1 ROM, those are just leaked photos and images, but nothing has been confirmed regarding 2.1 and Sense. The Sprint skipping to 2.1 does not mean that it's getting 2.1+Sense, only that the phone is getting 2.1 Either way, it's all speculation. Until it's been seen running on a phone, it's all vaporware. A lot of people thought that the N1 was the HTC Passion. There were even pictures of it. But how did that turn out?

You see, the problem with people believing leaked photos and pawning them off as fact is that they can be wrong. All I'm saying is that 2.1 was communicated today as the pure Google Experience. And that the only confirmed work that HTC is doing is attempting to mate Sense with 2.0. Until otherwise is CONFIRMED, it doesn't exist.

What? You're saying the Hero is getting 2.1, but won't be getting sense? Is that a joke?

First of all, none of us were referring to any leaked photos or leaked custom ROMS. I (and im sure others) were referring the OFFICIAL notices by Sprint and HTC.

Hero WILL be getting Sense with its Eclair update:

Hero WILL be getting 2.1, NOT 2.0 (which I know you know, but still wanted to point out):

Now what does that mean? Its simple: Hero WILL be getting Android 2.1 + Sense.

But as if all this wasnt enough to stir ones pot, my initial question wasnt even about whether or not Hero will be getting 2.1+Sense. My question was, if we turn off sense after recieving the udpate, will we see the Nexus One ROM. Because right now, if you turn off Sense, you see the 1.5 Cupcake ROM.

Well Sanjay and Peter Chou better have been including the Hero in their list of "phones that can handle" it, because not releasing 2.1+Sense as they said they would, it would dissapoint a LOT of people.

I just don't see how it's plausible because the Qualcomm MSM7201A CPU with what they call a "3D accelerator" is a joke. But even that Twitter you posted... Eclair is OS2.0. You're inquiring about Flan. And even if Sprint phones get updated to Flan, it doesn't say "2.1 and Sense." The first Tweet you posted is the confirmation that I was talking about: That HTC was working on Sense for 2.0 (Eclair).

In other words, wait and see. It's all speculative. At this point, I'm just reporting what's FACT.

1) 2.1 is meant for pure Google, as Rubin stated TODAY in the Press Event.
2) HTC has been working on Sense + 2.0. The screenshots of the ROM were 1.5+Sense and someone likely photochopped 2.1 in there. Not believable to me, custom ROMs can be manipulated to say ANYTHING.
3) Sprint has tweeted 2.1 to the Hero, but today, Sanjay and Peter said that not all phones are getting 2.1 and will be based on their chipset.

By the way, updating Eclair + Sense does not necessarily equal updated Flan with Sense. This isn't multiplication and you can use the distributive property to say that Flan will get Sense. But we'll see... post some new news.

Android 2.1 is NOT Flan. It is an extension of Eclair. See: Android 2.1 gets real on the wings of the Nexus One -- Engadget read the second paragraph of the article. I quote "Notably, they're saying 2.1 is an extension of Eclair -- no Flan here". That's from TODAY's conference, since you seem so fond of it. And might I remind you, that the back of Sprint's Hero phone's have "with Google" engraved on it. Hero is a Google experience phone.

The leaked photos and ROMs are just as "Not believable" to me as they are to you. Just to make sure we're on the same page.

I'm sorry, but I just dont see any of the speculation you do. First of all, there is NO doubt that Hero will be getting 2.1. That's a fact. You think Sprint/HTC will give us 2.1 Eclair without Sense? I say unlikely, but I suppose its possible... in which case, you will be seeing Hero running the Nexus One OS, no? I mean. Nexus one runs 2.1 - whether you call it Eclair, Flan, extension of Eclair, whatever.

Okay, I'll give you that! I didn't catch that in the event about Flan. Up until now, 2.1 was reported as Flan. Thanks for the clarification!

All Google phones (to my knowledge) have "with Google" on the back of them. But not all of them are by definition the "Google Experience" devices for which Google coined that term. Again, to my knowledge, the only phones that are coined that are the G1, Droid and N1.

Like I said, we'll see. Nothing has been confirmed regarding 2.1 and Sense working together. In fact, the only thing I've read is that they've been having problems making it (2.0 and Sense) work together. And I still believe that the Qualcomm processor in the Hero/Eris are not up to snuff to run 2.1 with all of the 3D elements added to 2.1 compared to 2.0.1.

This is just speculation of course, but given that the Hero is very similar hardware wise (save for having a bit more memory) as the G1, then by extension, you are saying that 2.1 should be able to run on the G1. While I suppose that's possible, and I know that folks like Cyanogen have gotten eclair to run on the Dream, I believe the remarks that Sanjay made about not releasing 2.1 to hardware that cannot handle it refer precisely to the Dream/MT3G/Hero class of hardware.

Again, just speculation.

Then we shall see. I mean. I suppose it is possible for HTC to not release the update, even though they said they would... but we'll see.
