Nexus One update: Frg83d

And this is why i love my nexus

by the way nothing here in FL. Im going to wait see how long it takes to get an OTA. I have done all the rest manually

I just got the OTA as well. It gave it to me in two parts.. I dunno if everyone got it that way? I was still on 2.2 so I thought maybe that was why I got it in two parts? the second part is 4 mbs, atleast for me.. cause I was on 2.2 still. NO GINGERBREAD, SUCH A TEASE

Nope.. I got it in the 1 part update.

Though.. when I first got the replacement Nexus One. It came with 2.2 stock.. then it had a 2 part update.

My guess.. is this your first OTA? If so.. then that's probably why. One part update, is so your Nexus can receive updates. And the 2nd part update.. is the update it self.

someone please clue me in on how this works.

I read about an update being available and saw a download link to a zip file. So I got the zip and unzipped it but I dont see any way to install it. It became a few folders with a whole bunch of stuff in them and few .apk scattered here and there. I didnt install any of the apk files but I am just wondering what should i do with all this unzipped content. For now I am leaving it, but can someone tell me what I should look for.

thanks

You are tryin to manually update it?? sounds like it.. so use that guide on how to do it.. Pretty easy once you know how.

Guide works the same for the new update!

Just in case anyone wonders, this breaks 2 root exploits (SuperOneClick and VISIONary) and contains a newer version of the Market.

I have frf91 rooted. I have rom manager. I have flashed clockworkmod recovery.

This morning I was told of the 2 part OTA update. I chose OK. Reboot took me to clockworkmod, which told me the signature verification failed! What's the deal with that?

I'm thinking I'd like to apply the update, even though I know I'll lose root. I figure I can get it back easily enough after. What should I do?

could someone provide the upgrade infos ? as in what crap it updates :))

The Froyo framework has been patched, as has the applications debugger. When we look at the system applications, each has a small patch, but Vending (the Android Market, which is now at Version 2.12), the Google services framework, and the GoogleEmail application (not Gmail) has a larger patch in place. There's also a small patch to the stock recovery
Nexus One gets an update to FRG83D (no, it's still not Gingerbread) | Android Central

Haven't gotten the OTA yet, lol.

Since I'm a root noob (yes I know...I still haven't rooted >_>; still overwhelmed with the reading materials) So if I do the SuperOneClick to root prior to the FRG83D OTA...would that mean I can manually get the update right after since I wouldn't have a custom ROM on and I'll still be rooted? lol.

Well there are reports of it still working, so I might be wrong. It's worked for some and not others it seems, odd.

That aside, if you have root, then get an OTA you will lose it (but the Superuser.apk remains to bug you lol)

At what point should I be concerned if I haven't gotten the OTA? I tried the manual update, but got an error (was in a hurry to get out the door, so didn't write it down), so would rather just wait for the OTA. I'm not rooted or modded or anything, and have gotten OTAs in the past.

Please correct me if I am wrong - let's assume my N1 is rooted:

- I might get the OTA request to upgrade or not get it

- If I upgrade (OTA or manual) I will loose my root

- I will not be able to root again until someone finds a way to root this version of the software.

Am I right?

I got the OTA and udpated yesterday (was on stock 2.2.1 and rooted via SuperOneClick 1.5.1). After installing I ran SuperOneClick again and it rooted again with no issues. Running as well as ever, but no noticeable differences from the update.
