Nexus One update: Frg83d

Please correct me if I am wrong - let's assume my N1 is rooted:

- I might get the OTA request to upgrade or not get it

- If I upgrade (OTA or manual) I will loose my root

- I will not be able to root again until someone finds a way to root this version of the software.

Am I right?

Help please...new to the forum. Everything was fine with my N1 before downloading FRG83D. I'm not sure if both of two parts successfully downloaded. In Settings, the build number says it's FRG83D. Some apps, games (don't save in progress games), a pop up message says "Doubletwist has stopped unexpectedly" and I must "Force Close" while I never opened the app. When I get emails, the phone plays some generic song to notify me there is email waiting. It will continue to play until I open email. It is not the ringtone I selected. Some apps I had to pay for so I don't want to delete and purchase again unless I have to. My phone contacts remained intact, but Favorites and the call log was wiped clean. Weird thing is it asked me to set up email again even though it was working. I don't believe my phone is "rooted" as I obtained my phone as part of a free promotional deal and not through a carrier, nor through Google. My carrier is ATT. Till this latest download my phone has been trouble free and great in my opinion.

None of these are fatal errors, but are annoying. Is there a way to revert back to the previous build number (whatever that was)? If so, how? If I can, I'll probably be prompted of the FRG83 download and hopefully a second time it will be clean. And in the state my phone is now, should it affect the soon to be coming Gingerbread version? Any suggestions? Thanks for your assistance.

Hey my friend.. I have the same problem every since the update. System been unstable. I lose my settings on a reboot or if battery dies. After that ... everything is unstable. I have multiple apps that either crash or vanishes. Have reseted the phone a few times now to the same deal. On tmobile. Never done this before the update.

I am getting E: no signature E:Verification Failed. Installation aborted. On the OTA update and I tried updating using the manual download from this thread and renaming to zip and applying via RA-nexus-v1.7.0

Any ideas?

been on this update for a few weeks now. i'd like my old phone back. would not recommend installing this one to anyone smart enough to have waited.

you might not recomend it ,but i think it's going to be a MUST for 2.3

That's what I assumed as well. I hope 2.3 comes SOON because mine hasn't been "right" since the update.

Nothing really wrong, but sometimes the phone will just lag, or the wrong app will come up (I think this is actually the lag from a previous action or because the lag caused the screen press to register a different icon).

Like others have said, nothing more than an annoyance. However 2.2 was so stable and fast that it's a step backwards.

I have gone through and cleaned out some old apps, hoping that more memory would resolve some of the issues and I think it has helped a little. But 2.3 better come soon or we're going to need another patch to fix this patch.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

For other people's peace of mind, mine has been no different since the update.

It's also entirely possible that my minor issues are due to an app that I ran, or something unrelated to the update.

Like I said, nothing really bad has happened, it just doesn't seem to be running as well as before. Hard to put a finger on exactly what it is.

No ,what you say is true ,2.2.1 was fast and this one slowed it down ,don't know WHY ,but it reminds me of my ex-X10 ... every darn patch seemed to get things worse ,i even upgraded one of my shop's X10's to 2.1 ,and seems even worse than 1.6 was on it :))

Hope google isn't going to implement that on the N1

Weird as I have had no problems and if this was a wide spread issue then more would be complaining. I think it would be great if one of you guys having problems with FRG83D were to do a complete wipe and retest.

When you say full wipe, did you also clear the caches?
System and dalvik are often the reason for phone misbehavior after updates.
I'm still on frg83, because I'm on a de-odexed stock rom, and I hadn't had time flour a manual update. The installation pp up is driving me mad tho! :p

**** MAN!! It did it again!

My battery died on my phone. It powered down and I plugged it in, powered it back up! All settings rested and apps gone! Basically the phone rested itself!

It seems to only do this when the battery dies and it shuts off. Why?? Only started doing this after this update.

..cleared them about 20 times ,wiped the sistem about 10 times ,same thing !

It's not that disturbing ,you just feel that it's a bit slower.

That's weird ,do a clean install ,in case you did it ...stay on 2.2.1 (downgrade) and wait for 2.3.

Mine today just freezed after answearing a phone call ,had to pull the batt out ,and after restart ,freezed again. First time that happened. May be the update ?

Do you know if it's okay to manually download FRG83D manually a second time if I already did the OTA? The first time left me with several bugs and changes to my Nexus One. I don't know how to delete the first OTA. I wish I could go back to the previous version...Thanks!
