Root no 4g anywhere...ever...please help

Alright, im brand spankin new to this forum so go easy on me. Ive got the lg motion 4g with metro pcs and since ive had it i have never been able to get 4g. i have dropped it into water twice. Sue me, i was watchin porn in the bath tub, bad idea i know...that was my first mistake... ;-) but anyway i dried out my phone both times immediately with a hair dryer. My phone went into download moad which at the time i had never seen that before. But i held the on/off button until my phone rebooted. Also at the time i didnt have unlimited data. So i hop and skip to the metro tsore. I had unlimited 4g upgraded to unlimited. But i still cannot even get 4g when i am in dowtown farking sacramento. I took it to a phone repair shop and the guy told me since i dropped it into water, that it might be a hardware issue. Myphone is not rooted and im looking to see if this is something i can fix. Also its not a matter of airplane mode or my data being turned off. And ive kind of tinkered around with the hidden menus but to no avail. Please help
 
does data work at all? if so are you getting 3g or 1x? what are your speed test results?
i know you're new to the forum, but does that mean your phone is not rooted and on the stock rom? I ask this b/c it is known that the CM10 roms don't show the 4g icon without doing a fix, even though you actually get 4g speeds.

If you aren't able to get any data I'd say it's a hardware issue. can't help anymore, unfortunately, good luck and welcome to the forum.
 
If you're getting data but not 4g you could of ruined the chip... Just an idea. And probably shouldn't be watching anything on the phone in a bathtub. Actually probably shouldn't be taking baths anymore at all after maybe the age of ten unless you're actually with a woman lol.. Anyway hope everything works out..

Well i dont even bathe now at al bcuz of thisl...ever. but yea i dont have any kind of data at all besides connecting to wifi networks. If i can connect to wifi why cant i get 4g, 3g, or 1x at all? And no my phone is NOT rooted whatsoever. Still stock. Also something probably completly unrelated...i cant send mms or even sms now. But this problem is a newer problem than no 4g...does my phone hate me and is committing hari kari because of my porn bathtub experience...lol
 
Phone still isnt rooted cuz i wouldnt have any idea what to do with it after root. But i want to learn because i love android over the detestable iphone.

I remember when I first got this phone I would never get 4g so I just read around and a lot of people said it worked after they talked with Metro Support and gave them their sim card number again (it wasn't registered for them so they didn't allow the connection, apparently) so before calling it out and saying it was a hardware malfunction I just got online in a support chat with them and told them my sim number and they registered my device and I was all set, my phone started working.

But I believe for me, 1x always worked, but never 3g or 4g until I contacted metro.


my only other suggestion would be to try to update your Roaming List using *228 then I think pressing the number "5".


If that doesn't work, and if what you're saying about data not working before your issues then maybe your phone came broken out of the box and you should have it replaced... I doubt water would have broken something that wasn't working before ;).
 
yeah llama has a point. I didn't realize you said you NEVER had 4g. If you originally set up your phone online or even through the metro phone number there's a possibility it wasn't set up with the 4g sim card. I had this issue and ended up having to bring the phone into the store to get it done.

So before giving up on the phone entirely I'd take it to metro and say you can't get data working. Don't mention anything about the water damage; if they can't fix it then it's probably a hardware issue.

The wifi radio is separate from the data/4g/3g radio, so that's why your wifi works. Good luck.
