Help No app icon badge notifications

This is my first redmi phone, im used to Samsung phones and app icon badges for notifications. The redmi note 4 has never displayed app icon badges to show whatsapp messages or facebook updates. No matter what I do in settings i cannot get them to display, can the phone do it by default or does something special need to be done?

App icon badges are a property of the launcher, which is the app that provides both the desktops and the app drawer, i.e. everywhere you see the icons with badges. So if the Redmi launcher doesn't support this, just install one that does and use that.

I use Nova launcher, which has an add-on called TeslaUnread which provides these badges (with more customisation options than the Samsung one provides). But Apex Launcher with its Apex Notifier add-on does the same, and I'm sure there are plenty of other options too.

Have you installed TeslaUnread as well? That is needed to provide the badges.
