Root No App to SD

I believe A2SD was abandoned w/the move from ANDROID 2.3 to ANDROID 3.0 (4.0 for phones).

Your best bet is visiting XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM to see if any of the ROMS available have this feature baked in.

THIS.

LINK2SD is a great app for A2SD,I used it on my rooted HUAWEI ASCEND. It's a highly functional app w/many options for which data of each app you want migrated to the external SD CARD.

I haven't used it in a long time, but, if I remember correctly , it even had the ability to format your SD Card to the desired partitioning configuration. (EXT2/EXT3/EXT4/FAT32)

I am familiar with rooting and have rooted my phone but I have never added a new ROM successfully. So I'm a bit leary of doing this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kolio, thanks for the link it worked perfect. In fact I have never seen a root program so well written and the instructions dead on accurate. I love his talbletui mod too. I'm donating to this guy because he is that good.:)

COOL,I may have to do this myself today.
I'm guessing your main reason for doing so was the A2SD enabling.

How do you have your car partitioned/sized,etc.....?

I've got the MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD HOME EDITION version 7.8 installed on my Windows 8 PC to partition my card (64GB SDXC) to just about any configuration.

Once I get that out of the way,I'll be rooting/ROM.

THX! :)

I'm guessing no,the partitions w/your card are most likely ANDROID compatible.

I was mainly curious if the all-in-one root/ROM that you installed involved the SD Card at all.

If not, then I guess I'm ready to roll & I'll worry about my card later.

Have you D/L LINK2SD yet?

I haven't moved A2SD on a phone in almost two years while running ANDROID 2.3 (last version to officially support A2D),but,I believe you can force them to do so w/this app, even on ANDROID 4.0 +

Anyway, this is a cool app,& apparently, the developer is still actively supporting it,as it was updated last month.

If you check out the screenshots, you'll get an idea of whatall it can do.If I remember correctly,it will also identifty how your card is partitioned,etc.....

I have a 32 gig card installed but I didn't partition it. Does it need to be done? Ap2sd is still not working.

I grabbed my Sero Pro a few weeks ago...I think the day it hit my loacal Super Walmart and rooted it soon after. I was using Link2SD and I had a bit of trouble with it on the Sero. It's wasn't because I didn't know how to format the card or use it (I use it on my ICS Android). The problem I encountered was that it moved some properly and others it "thought" it moved but really didn't. There was about 10 programs it thought it moved. All of those programs were no longer installed and I had to reinstall them. I think this issue will be taken care of when it is again updated. We have JB 4.21 which is rather new so we can expect some issues with some software like this.

It's very easy to make your Link2SD SD card partitions. Here's how using free programs:

1) Format your SD card using SD Formatter. It will format the entire card as FAT32.
2) Use Minitool to resize your partition from the right end so that you have about 3 GB unallocated space.
3) Stay in Minitool to create an ext4 partition from the unallocated space
4) Apply your changes.

Now you have your proper Link2SD formatted SD card. Both SD Formatter and Minitool can easily be found using Google. BTW...the reason you use SD Formatter to format your SD cards is because it is made by the official SD Accociation (sdcard.org) and I can say from experience that formatting with that utility greatly speeds up your read/writes. From their site:

>The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.

The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area".<

Should I keep the FAT32 as the primary & EXT4 as Logical (using the MINITOOL Partition Wizard)?

No. Both partitions MUST be primary in order for them to work. So the first and largest partition is FAT32 Primary and then the smaller EXT4 partition at the end is also primary.

Both partitions CAN be FAT32 primary but it is preferred that the 2nd partition be ext4 Primary.

Got this tip from another forum. The app Folder Mount allows moving apps to sd. Got it from play store.

I've used it from what I saw probably at the same place you did. I'm rooted but have the stock ROM so I couldn't move apps. My experience is that it works-so it says- on moving data for some apps. Its hard to verify because data still appears to show on sdcard0 and emulated. It didn't work on factory installed Google Currents (had to uninstall and reinstall from Play Store) or Next Issue which uses lots of memory.

I tried to follow this on a 64g microcard/SD adapter inserted directly into my Win 7 PC but in step 1), the recommended SD Formatter (also recommended by a PC club friend), kept on formatting it in exFAT which will not mount in my Sero 7 Pro. What did work was a utility called guiformat.

Anyone else try SD formatter or have been able to mount exFAT. exFAT would be nice because files >4g could be accessed.

Did you do itand get ti to move apps/data?
I'm rooted, partitioned a 64 gb card to about 59g FAT 32, 3 G ext4. Installed Link2SD. But, I can't move or link any apps? Do I need a ROM and if so not sure why?

I partitioned a 64 g card with Minitool Partition wizard, about 59 G FAT32 and about 3 G for other. I tried ex4, ex2 but only FAT32 was recognized for the second partition by Link2SD. It wouldn't let me move the apps/data but did allow me to create links some to apps and data and some just apps. I also have FolderMount running for 3 larger data apps and 'unpaired' where I was able to move data with Liink2SD. I moved a bunch of apps, most of my installed ones, no system or pre-installed. It worked initially. I copied some pixs and music from my original test 8 G card to what I thought was data partition. I shut down. Now, on rebooting, all of the apps moved are missing. Link2SD says there are no linked apps.

I tried clearing caches from Recovery but all this did was update my Android apps installed. Anybody have a clue? Unfortunately, I don't have a backup of my setup, just my apps in stores and on a Thrive AT100 Apps Backup and Restore on my PCs HD, pixs and music on HD.

PS-The 64 G card now won't mount; 8G will. Do I need to unroot/factory restore reformat/repartition 64 G card or is there any other option?

PSS-XDA forum on Link2Sd offered sugg'n to relink but stuff was gone! What I am doing is deleting app icons on home page of problem apps and reloading them from Play, Amazon and my PC HD (saved apks from versions I liked on from my Thrive's SD card BU of data from 'App Backup and Restore', a neat app for my stock Thrive). Before doing I used CWM on Sero and cleared caches. This seems to be working w/ having to unroot, restore to factory settings. Wheeew!

Does your phone need to be rooted? :smokingsomb:

To move APPS 2 SD,yes, you need to be rooted.

This feature was on stock ANDROID once upon a time, but, was dropped about 2yrs ago when ANDROID 4.0 (ICE CREAM SANDWICH) was released.

Any devices still running ANDROID 2.2 OR 2.3 still have the feature w/o root.

If you can manage to get LINK2SD working on your tablet,it allows for more of the app data to be transferred to the SD CARD than the stock A2SD on older ANDROID devices, which frees up more spce internally & makes for a much smoother running tablet.

However, not all apps behave when moved to the external SD Card.If this is the case, simply move it back to internal storage.

I am running rooted (xboxexpert method) and just tried a USB OTG cable. It wouldn't work so I tried a few USB mgr programs one at a time from Play Store. One of them clobbered my system. After uninstalling, the last one, I see a "bulls eye" and crosshairs on the screen and a light blue line of last stylus move. There are graphics coordinate tabs at the top of the screen. I had to do a CWM touch restore from my sd card. My e-mail and related settings were recovered. But all linked apps are missing (just home page icons that don't work) and these are ones linked by Link2SD. I am running only a single partition test micro sd card. Does this cause problems?

All of the solutions suggested make sense, and allow someone to work past the 8GB internal ram constraint. I noticed that the UK has a 32 GB version with microSD and I am curious if that will be made available in the US anytime soon. The reason I ask is I just got the Sero Pro 7 and I really like it but I am willing to return it if the wait is not too long before a 32 GB version will be released.

One of the 2 64 Gb cards I got on eBay put in my Thrive is definitely bad per SD Card Tester. While the one in the Sero 7 Pro checks out ok (it does reads slow), some of the things that happened in trying to get it formatted and used with Link2SD make it suspect as well. After copying the CWM backups from it, I'm dumping the card!

Update: Link2SD works fine now with a Kingston 8 G card used for testing. Wiil use this until I get a larger cap card.
