No auto correct in webforms? WTF?

I've just come from the iPhone and am now on Galaxy Nexus. So far so good, but when I type something in the browser into a webform, there's no auto correct enable, no word suggestions, no nothing, not even double space gives a period. What's that all about? I'm making heaps of mistakes, of course!
Is there a way of getting this enabled? Please don't tell me that that's just one of Android quirks!

There's so many questions to asked for me to assist you. First, So... You're typing in the web browser and you don't see any word suggestions, or any way of deleting your mistake or anything? I'm just trying to figure out your exact problem. Are you using the stock keyboard?

That's right, stock browser, stock keyboard.
No suggestions, just the plain keyboard. No keyboard buzz on pressing a key.

I thought Swype was a good idea, but I'm afraid for me it doesnt work and i find myself correcting more than writing.

I am typing this using the stock keyboard and it is auto correcting.

If you go to menu>settings>language and keyboard, tap on the default keyboard and it should have settings for auto correct.

The Gnex with ICS will be closer to Honeycomb with settings>Language and input>configure input method>settings.
