Help no calls or texts on EvDo only

I bought my elite 2 weeks ago works great but have signal issue. When I have it set to cdma auto I have almost no signal or a bar or 2 and eats battery like crazy. When I switch to evdo only I have full bars, fast data speeds, and battery doesn't drain fast but I cant receive text or calls it says searching for service.
why is that? need help

You wont have phone service with evdo only, thats just data. The elite is notorious for the awful signal issues. That is probably why your battery is draining so fast, your phone is always having a hard time finding a decent signal. Here are a few threads talking about the issue
