I just got a free droid from a friend who got an i-phone. It is a nice model and I really like it, however I get free wifi where I live and dont need the data plan. Is there a way around having to pay $30 a month for data usage when I get the internet for free at my house??? I was told by a friend who has worked for these companies and said they charge you so they can get money out of it. Please help

Welcome to the forum Truck! Have you tried calling your phone's carrier and turning the data plan off? I'm sure they can do it.

You really have to check with your carrier. Most carriers require a data plan for any smartphone they permit on their network, but some may have a pay as you go plan, which as long as you don't use it, won't cost you anything. However, they also tend to be the most expensive for data so if you end up using some data, it could cost a lot more than $30.00
