Root No external sound!?!?

Okay, I originally posted a thread about this in the Commando forum, but it seems to be another issue. My device is rooted, debloated, and all that fun stuff. I tried a factory reset, and my external sound came back on for two days. For some reason it stopped working again though. This tells me that it has to be software related, and not the actual speakers. How can I find the sound related files on this thing? Have you guys ever heard of this happening? What would you recommend me do about it?

if you are sure it is a software problem, which it sounds like it is, then I would just install the ROM again. yeah its not the sound file fix you were looking for, but whenever I have a problem with my phone (like GPS or something) I just titanium backup and reinstall. the system files for this phone are always troublesome. that's what I would do.

Oh yeah, I already did a factory reset and reinstalled everything on my phone. Does that do the same thing that the Ti backup and restore would do?

ok lets get a little more in depth.

i assume that doing a "factory reset" means that you did it from the recovery factory reset option, wiping data, cache, and dalvik-cache.

the speakers are powered by drivers. the drivers are located in the system partition.

doing a factory data reset does NOT reset/re-install the system partition. those files have remained untouched.

having root privileges means that you can modify system files, including the drivers. For example, I tried modifying the sound with pimp my beats. did not work.

my question to you: did you install a root app that would have messed with system sound files?

wiping the data does not wipe the changes in the system partition that the app may have done.

you can always do a nandorid backup before you do anything, and figure it out from there.

my apologizes if I came across rather rude or not helpful, I hope this can better solve the problem.

I did all of the above, and for some reason I still have not sound. I can hear a brief chime when ignoring calls, and that is really the only reason that I know this is NOT the speakers themselves. Of course, this last time I reset everything, I lost all my contacts for some reason. All 500+ of them. Could my actual backup be corrupted? Would too much surfing hardcore porn have infected my phone?

And I have never done the custom recovery on this phone. It is rooted and all, just without recovery. I have it all backed up with Ti and Golauncher though. I wonder where and what I could look for in those driver files or whatever with Script Manager to figure out just what the problem is?

The only apps that I have installed and ran on this lately have been Root App Delete and Clean Master. I only used the RAD app to freeze the stock Messaging app.

well, those kind of left handed websites could have that effect on that phone, or any phone of that matter. Try doing a browser history wipe :p

first i strongly recommend you get the custom recovery image and the insecure-and-adb-default-enabled boot image on your phone. you can do that here.

by you meaning your backup being corrupted, you mean your titanium backup? you should be able to still get your contacts from there, or even if you stored them on google, maybe?

Personally, I have never had this problem with the sound. Nor do I know where the sound files/drivers are. You could start by looking in the system partition, and search for a devices folder. However, if you are comfortable installing a new ROM, and then using TI to restore your data and apps, I would do that. It is your safest bet. Install only one root app at a time, tho, in case it WAS one of those. Doesn't hurt to be too careful.

If you have your data in an .img file, I can extract the files you need from it and send it back to you, if you need that as well.

hope this helps and best of luck :)
