Root no Fing market in CM 7!?!? help!

dan55

Android Expert
Hi all.

as you can guess just installed CM7 and can't find market app!
Can't think why they would have left it out :/

....and it means I can't dload. Titanium and hence am fooked for me apps

Help me please :)

Thanks
dan

Google apps are a separate flash in CM7 - have a look at the first couple of posts in the XDA thread and you should find the link (I can dig the package out if not).

It's historical: Cyanogen was one of the first Android developers, and got into a legal tussle with Google. Hence CM ROMs come without google apps, and you have to add them separately.

Hi Hadron
Thanks for quick reply.
I've found the page with all the goo files but no idea which one I need?

Cheers
Dan

....and thanks too Dan :/ :D

...and the bleedin goo app dload link just loops :( starting to go right off this cm7 lark :/ grrr

Well the CM7.1 thread includes a link to gapps-gb-20110828. When I was first on CM7 I used 20110307. Though since the only one I actually needed was the market (once Ti was installed I could restore any others I wanted), and I generally replace that with the blacked-out version, I eventually started just flashing blacked-out market and not using the gapps installer at all.

thanks Hadron,

ive just managed to pull down a file - the link at the top just annoyingly looped me through an add site :( but then i just went for the newest gb file in the big list and flashed that.....fingers crossed......

mmmm....Talk is now listed but closes immediately - still cant see market app :/

....ahh - think i might have picked up a Talk update file - as it is smaller than another one with same date - oops! :)

.....trying the next file.....

ITS BACK! HOORAH!! :D

.....should have had me tea before starting this i think :D

cheers
dan

.....ahhh - and lovely Titanium is now doing its thang :)

btw: i do like the CM themes - nice touch - and also the reboot options - that is v good

PLUS - just called my mobile from house phone without any apps loaded and number displayed ok - cool ........i guess Dan must have been right.....again....damn his eyes :D

Good stuff :)

Don't worry, if you search the forum you'll find a lot of people have fallen for this one! But as Dan says, it's a good lesson - many ROMs have their little quirks, so it's always a good idea to read the first couple of posts thoroughly.

Let me know how you get on with CM Dan and how it compares to Redux - speed, battery life, features etc

Now Redux has stopped development I'm looking for another rom. No rush as there's nothing really wrong with Redux but always like to have new stuff to play with.

hi GrenW.

ok will keep you posted. liking it a lot so far. similar style to redux
ie not Sense, but with some nice extra touches :-)

speed seems good. too early to tell on battery.
internal mem much lower than redux

cheers

That's my worry. On a typical day I get home from work (12 hrs after unplugging) with around 50% battery left . I then use up another 20% or so mucking around at home - surfing, gaming etc.

If CM uses a bit more I can live with that but if its like a third or so more then it could be a deal - breaker. Surely though it can't be worse than a Sense rom and I was okay on those.

I could always try it I suppose but haven't got bored with Redux yet.

it certainly seems very settings packed :-D
not noticed any impact to battery as yet and have been on it most of the
day so far! ;-)

btw. I spotted profiles I'm settings but can't see any quick way of changing them.
ie switch ringer from officer to home etc :-\

@Grenw. I wouldn't worry too much. seems about same as any other rom
for me. you can only try it really I guess

cheers
dan

doh! not again :-D thanks.
would be cool if there was an icon in notification bar too imo

I've been using Audio manager so hadn't tried them before

cheers

I dunno. I use it to put it into silent between working hours and sleeping hours. I get a "silent" taskbar icon for that. I like my status bar clean, not cluttered. You'd have to look through tasker's options.

I was thinking about using Tasker......can it display a status icon then?
cheers

I use Phoneweaver - has an icon for each profile in the notification bar. Nowhere near as powerful as Tasker but does what I need it to do - volume/brightness/wifi/3g etc based on time/location/appointments etc

Switches on wifi when I get home and off when I leave. Turns the volume down when I get to work and goes into silent mode when I have a meeting in my calendar. Volume goes up when I'm not at home or at work.

:-D thanks guys. maybe I shouldn't have shelled out for Tasker so quick :-\

normally I have AMP widget etc on WL lock screen but was trying to keep
it cleaner for a change to enjoy the gloriousness of cm :-D

cheers
