No flash on Ice Cream Sandwich

I still can't fathom having to use mobile browser sites on the newer phones 6 to 12 months from now. If that is the case, I'll be going to a Win8 phone possibly. This would be a HUGE downgrade if we can't view/use full browser capability on android phones or tabs. I can't even believe they are trying to sweep this under the rug honestly. Sadly, the average user probably doesn't even know about different browsers and/or mobile desktop modes so sweeping it under the rug is quite possible.

The averagr user does not even know what a mobile site i and does not care.

The less average user will find a way to switch to full websites, most websites have a link for that anyway.

Flash is coming to ICS:

Flash for Android not quite dead yet, will land on Ice Cream Sandwich by year's end -- Engadget

Those of you lucky enough to get your mitts on a Galaxy Nexus may have noticed something odd -- no flash in the champagne room Android Market. Turns out the latest edition of Adobe's multimedia plug-in isn't compatible with the newest version of Google's mobile OS. Don't panic just yet though, while the end is nigh for mobile Flash, it's still got one more release left in it and that will deliver ICS compatibility. Adobe told the folks over at Pocket-lint, "[it] will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will provide support for Android 4.0." Or, if you're a glass half-empty type, ICS will be your last chance to browse the "full" web on Android. The final release of the mobile plug-in will also be accompanied by one last version of the Linux Porting Kit -- after that, you better hope HTML5 really hits its stride.

Now can people stop having a heart attack? Even if Adobe didn't end up updating its not like some crafty dev couldn't have done something with time lol

Adobe flash is slow, and I've played about 3 adobe air games, and they were all laggy. I respect apple for not allowing flash on their phones. Everyone ridiculed apple and steve jobs for not putting flash on the iphone, but look at us now, removing a laggy, insecure feature from the android ecosystem. Yeah there are a few browsers out there like opera and HTCs stock browser that can use flash smoothly, but overall, flash is really slow on the android stock browsers.

Apple had it right all along. HTML5 is the way to go. Adobe and apple have a long and close relationship, so there had to be major reasons for apple to reject them like that. Personally, I'm glad to see it go. I'm tired of all the security threats and security updates that are a result of adobe flash.

That's an eloquent way to defend a lack of a major feature on iphones. OR, you could conclude that apple left it off because they didn't want the extra battery drain flash can cause on a handset. IMHO, thats the major reason this very useful feature was kept off the iphone. Personally, I'd rather have the option of using flash or not than NO option of using it what so ever on my smartphone. But thas jus me I guess. :)

No, not just you...:) As someone who saw the benefits of Flash, from websites that worked better than the app to my girlfriend using, needing Flash on my phone for homework....(crazy college teacher only used a website he created for doing, turning in homework)

I , and I'm sure I can speak for my girlfriend, greatly appreciate Adobe and Google for giving us the ......choice....

Back when I had "full Flash" (vs. Flash light) support on my Nokia N900, I was able to not only configure, but test my soft phones and SIP trunks, all on my phone. Flash support made it possible given the lack of app support at the time. Its always nice to know that, "I don't need an app for that".
