No free visual voicemail with ICS?

google voice is visual voicemail, you have to download it and set it up

i believe verizon asked not to have google voice as the primary visual voicemail so that can make money off of their service. because as you know verizon has a blur vizual voicemail app that is really nice, but you can get free VVM with google voice.

Well I just tried google voice, and i left myself a few test messages and not one of them was able to transcribe my voice mail into text. so the app was kinda pointless. I was so hoping this would work because I would love to have this feature free.

I've been using Google Voice for 2 years now and found it moderately successful - enough so I can pretty much understand most of the messages I get just by reading the transcription.

Except whenever my mother calls - then I have enormous fun listening to the message and reading the text as it plays :D

I tested mine several times and not one of the voicemail i left myself was able to transcribe. I don't think i speak funny or anything lol no real accent to speak of, and I don't chew on my tongue or anything when i speak, but it didn't transcribe any of them. I checked the settings with google and it was set to transcribe, so who knows, maybe over the weekend i will play with it a little more.

I have not been able to get google voice to load correctly and recieve messages on my phone. deleted it...

I just created a shortcut to voicemail (direct dial) that also inputs the password so it goes directly to the message without having to push buttons. Works great.

you have to configure google voice first.

and my google voice does have issues not being able to transcribe, but luckily, i can listen to it and not have to worry, only if it is an automated voice will you be able to read it word for word

I configured it, then changed the setting to have that as the default, still did not work. I am sure it is something that I am doing (or not doing) to make it not work.

and it never defaulted to google voice?

you need to change your voicemail settings from your carrier to google voice.

i dont exactly remember where it is to change it, because i did mine a LONG time ago

I agree that the transcribe with Google Voice is hit and miss. I might glance at it to see if I can get the general idea of the message, but I still rely on listening to the message like I would if using stock voicemail, YouMail, etc.

There is a code that you need to enter into the dialer of the phone. You get the code from the Google Voice website in the settings menu under Phone.

I have been using Google Voice since day one and it is great. The voice mail transcription has gotten substantially better over the past year but it does take a few minutes to transcribe the messages.

I've been using Google Voice since before I picked up my first Android phone. The transcripts have never been accurate, but they can be very entertaining.

To use GV, you have to set things up properly at Google.com/voice as well as in the app on the phone. Once you've done that it works really well. With ICS, when set up properly, you will even have you voice mails show up in your call log.

I have been using youmail for several years fist starting on my old blackberry. They have a free visual voicemeail app and are able to sync your contacts and have personalized messages (when my callers here "hello NAME" so it actually ereads their name from my contact list!

Thanks, I deleted and reset up my information and seems to be working now. Although You Mail sounds interesting...

Youmail is a pretty nice service. The digital voice is more pleasant for the caller than that of Google Voice as well. The key thing it misses for me is the integration that Google Voice has with ICS as well as Chrome.
