Root no idea what I'm doing. phone memory to SD card

Hi all
I have looked through the threads but it's all a bit over my head.
(I used to be great at tech stuff, but my phone scares me)
I have a samsung galaxy ace.
I was getting the "insufficient storage" message.
I had a 2gb micro SD and went and bought an 8gb one.
I used KIES to backup and restore.
Most of my stuff saved. no games though. like 4 pics one word, like that.
So I go googling and find something about getting root, and also another program link2sd. I have no idea how to get link2sd. and if I need to d/l it to my phone I don't have the room.
I need some serious dumbing down answers please!

two of the things that use up a lot of storage space are sms and phone log. if you don't need to keep up with old sms, delete your old messages, or use an sms backup program to save them and then delete them. also delete your history from the call log. after that go thru your apps and clear the cache. you would be suprised at how much space you can free up this way.

Thanks :)
Yes I have done that on a regular basis.
I've discovered that I need to "get root" whatever that means and I'm trying to find a reputable info source on that.

I'm getting there and will detail the steps later it may help someone else.
I don't know why samsung can't just make it an option to move stuff to an SD card easily

Try again man. My wifes first android was the Ace and i told her when it started running out of storage to root it herself and she actually managed it after some hand holding by the guys on a forum :)
The way she did it didnt require a computer, Odin or anything (although she did it a long way, downloading it to the laptop then onto her SD lol), it was just a file flashed in stock recovery
