No laptop connection

GT-S5830i Andriod Version 2.3.6

I connect to my Dell Win 7 laptop but the laptop does not see the phone.

If I pull down the notification bar I do not get:-

" USB connected, select to copy files to your computer"

I see icons for Wifi, BT, GPS, Sound and Auto Rotate

Below that is:-

Talkmobile

and below that is:-

No Notifications.

Kies 2.6.0.13074_14 on laptop.

When connect the USB cable I get the "connected" sound on the phone. Checked USB tethering and USB symbol shows in notification bar.

But still no connection to laptop. Trouble shooting says it is reinstalling drivers but still no connection.

Any advice please?
 
After a number of reinstalls and reboots it finally connected.

However I now have trouble getting images from laptop to phone; transferred one images but could not transfer more. "Library" would only show one image.

Used Windows Explorer to transfer further images.
 
Ive been using files drag and drop,its good and free,but if you want to transfer more than 5 files from your pc in the day you will have to pay for the full version.
 
I only used Kies to update from Froyo to Gingerbread.I used the standalone Samsung USB driver install and then just use the free 2xexplorer lite free version

2xExplorer home

as it has dual panes on my PC.This makes it really easy to transfer files to and fro' to the phone.
I also use Bluetooth for small and quick files.There is no need to use Kies for updates other than the official firmware,which is a rarity.
