no longer get text alerts after Handcent

I installed Handcent recently. When I did I stopped getting audio alerts for messages as well as no more alert icon in the status bar. I uninstalled Handcent and I still have no alerts for messages.

The texts ARE coming through but I have to open the app to check and see. Otherwise I have no way of knowing.

I do continue to get alerts for other apps such as Facebook.

Any advice?

Hello and welcome to the forums. Now did u go and set the notification sounds . if it still look at the messages in the app your not the only one so its something that the developer needs to fix

Go into the stock messaging app, and hit menu, and check to make sure the notification is on and sound was not change to silent.

Also, and I don't see this mentioned enough. After uninstalling an app, restart your phone. More tunes than but a restart clears out junk left by the uninstalled app especially since it's affecting your built in messaging alerts.

Of course I restarted my phone. Any time I have a problem like this I reboot. And I checked all the settings. Remember I said I still get notifications for other events such as google backups.

I used handcent as my text app for about a year - until I upgraded to 4.3. After the upgrade my phone would reboot on its own every couple of days, sometimes more than once a day - finally realized it was always when I had handcent open. I uninstalled it about a month ago (using stock messaging app) and haven't had an automatic reboot since.

Again, I check ALL settings in all apps. Everything I can find. It's all checked and not doing what it claims to do.

FWIW I solved the problem the hard way--I restored to factory settings and backed up from Helium. Phone like new.

Sometimes, that is the only thing that works. Glad you got it fixed.
