Help No longer receiving SMS or MMS messages

Hello, I've been running Cyanogenmod on my Droid Eris for the past few months with little complaint until 11/24 when my phone abruptly no longer sent or received text messages. After using ROM manager to update to the latest version of Cyanogenmod it restored my ability to send however receiving is still blocked.

I've tried a few basic troubleshooting ideas like updating the googleapps package to the latest version and using a 3rd party SMS app but nothing has changed. I find it really odd that I'm not receiving any error messages or any sort of notification that something is wrong. Clearing my data and cache hasn't helped either with the problem which I was concerned may have been the problem.

I'm happy to take any advice given and I'll provide information about what fixed it for others who may have the same problem. This has been a really frustrating experience with an already frustrating device. Thanks for reading!

Well, one thing to try is to either Nandroid restore a stock ROM like xtrSENSE, if you have it, or install that ROM from scratch just to see if a stock ROM will clear the SMS queue.

So, if you have a Nandroid backup of xtrSENSE or xtrROM or PlainJane, etc.:

- Restart in Recovery
- Backup/Restore menu
- Nand backup what you have now
- Nand restore that old ROM
- restart the phone
- see if the SMS/MMS messages are now being received

or, if you do not have a Nandroid backup of one of those ROMs:

- download xtrSENSE and copy it to your SD card
- Restart in Recovery
- Backup/Restore menu
- Nand backup
- Main menu
- Wipe menu
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe Dalvik cache
- Main menu
- Flash a zip from SD card
- Choose xtrSENSE5.0.1.zip
- restart the phone
- setup the phone
- see if your SMS/MMS messages are being received

In either case, if they are not, you can try calling VZW support to see if they can clear your SMS queue.

Once you do get it settled, you can go back to where you are now:

- Restart in Recovery
- Backup/restore
- If you just installed xtrSENSE from scratch, Nand backup - it could come in handy later
- Nand restore
- Choose the backup that you made earlier in the day
- Restart the phone.
