No Love for Batman Arkham Asylum?

I may try it again tonight. I just got so frustrated with it. I couldn't do any harm to him. He couldn't do any harm to me. If I moved in to try to hurt him, he kicked the crap out of me. Plus my controller keeps acting up (I think it's the controller any way). The camera constantly pans up so I end up looking straight down on Batman's head. I can't see any enemies. I can't see any part of my surroundings. I'm looking right at Bat's skull. So I spend the game moving around in my environment and constantly adjusting the camera at the same time which is insanely annoying.

Appreciate the help. Didn't know the pods on the ground were what I was supposed to target. When all you can see is an overhead shot it's hard to tell. I really need to get my controller unjacked. Once I targeted the pods he wasn't that hard to beat at all. I loved the Robin cameo.

Mine is definitely jacked. I can set the controller on my desk so I'm not even touching it and Batman will walk off the edge of a building while the camera pans over his head. I'm fighting with capitalist guilt about replacing the controller.

If it's really broken and you have no warranty, I'd be tempted to open it up and give it all a clean. You'd be surprised how much crap builds up inside those things even if you make a point of having clean hands whilst using them...

I'm 99% sure it's got dirt in it. I'm too lazy at this point to crack it open. I actually cracked into the Christmas money and got an official Arkham City controller.

Personally, I love the video game rule of three. I wonder what game started it? Zelda? Mario? Hmm... I'm just happy that modern games continue it.

Bwahaha capitalism wins again! Just tell yourself you're helping the economy.

I've got extra Christmas money. I'm considering it an early Christmas gift. This game has now ticked me off because it is so insanely long. I feel like I've been playing forever and I'm only 20% through. I feel like I have no hope at all of completing it. I also long for more Catwoman. You play her twice in the very first part of the game, then she drops off the map it seems.

All of the different challenge maps contribute a lot to your overall %. The actual story wasn't as long as I expected.

I haven't got to any of the side challenges except for Bane's. I ran into him early on and I've been blowing up Titan barrels as I come across them. Not going out of my way to wind them or anything, just blowing them up as I pass them.

I am completely and totally stuck with the Catwoman/Two-face fight. I've spent the last 1.5-2 hours on that stage and have made no progress at all. I tried sneaking around the guards and going after him. I can get him once or twice, maybe three times if I'm lucky, then it's one shot from his gun or the bad guy's guns and I'm dead. I tried picking off the guards one by one then going after him. I had no better results.

Took an hour or so away to eat, came back and beat it on the first try. Very weird. Now I'm trying to knock out the side missions, but having a hard time with some of them.

Deadshot - How in the world do I track him? I tracked his shot back to the water tower, but the trail ends there. No clue where to go.

Riddler's second hostage - No idea where this person is being kept. I got in the vicinity, but had no luck finding the actual hostage

Mr. Freeze's wife - Again, same as Riddler. In the area. Find no sign of her or a building she could possibly be in.

Deadshot stuff only pops up in certain areas. You will hear a shot and the Orical will start talking to you. If you really want to find the areas you can look them up online.

A lot of Riddler's hostages are through hidden doors. They are hidden behind walls with a big green ? on them. I dont remeber if you have to have detective mode on to see them or not. Just go to the location and look for a wall with the ? the go up to it and hit the button it tells you to hit.

Freeze's wife - well you have to have the use of the ice granade to get into the building. Out in the water there is a floating barge, glyde out to it and then throw a granade out into the water, forming a patch of ice you can land on. Get on the ice then use the bat claw to pull yourself over to the breakable wall...go inside, beat people up, get Nora's location.

If you get stuck just google what you are looking for. I can't remember the name of the website, maybe IGN, has a good guide. I have a few good websites bookmarked on my home computer I can send you when I get home if you want.

Also, the main story, side missions, riddler trophies add up to about 70% of the completed %...so you are further along then you think.

I managed to track down Deadshot although he was a pain to take out. I was shocked at how many places he could see me when I thought I was out of site. I did not realize that about the Riddler hostages. I remember seeing question marks like that somewhere, but didn't investigate them. Now I will. I'm like 50% done. I've tracked down about 25% of the Riddler trophies. I'm like 80% through with Zsasz. That one is really hard as I'm barely making it to some phones. One I picked up with 1 second left. I need to get into the steel mill and retrieve the Freeze tech there. I didn't realize the marker for Freeze's wife was not an exact location. I've been freeing political prisoners as I go along.

Have you done the augmented reality training? You really need that before you can do the phone missions.

I did the one that gives me the boosted grapple. I've been doing fine w/the phone missions without anything other than that. I found the AR training to be something of a bitch to do.

The only AR training I had trouble with was the one by the steel mill. It took me around 3 hours of play time to get that one O.o

As far as making it to the phones...you know you're getting good when you can glyde across the whole city with out touching the ground :P. As a matter of fact there are some achievements for glyding a certian distance with and without the grapple boost.

Oh another quick tip, in case you didn't already know. On some of the Riddler trophy puzzles you can and/or have to use the explosive gel to get all the ?. Took me awhile to realize you could even use the gel.

I'm at the point where I'm thinking of setting the game aside as it's kind of become tedious. I found Freeze's wife. I ended up exploring the area and heard the people complaining about how cold it was. I tracked where they were at and that's how I got there. I've got all the side missions except rescuing all the political prisoners (too lazy to scour the entire city hoping to find them), the AR training (PITA), all the Riddler clues of course since that's the longest, the Azrael mission (no idea where he's going to show up next and I'm too lazy to wander randomly looking for him) and the faceless killer (again, no clue where the second victim might be and I feel like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack). I'm 50% through (haven't done any of the challenges) and it's at the point where it just feels like work. I'm sure I will come back to this game at some point and track down all the stuff.

Picked this up for the 360 yesterday. I quite like what I've played through so far, I can't get over how much there is too it compared to the original, it seems huge. Combat seems a little more fluid and the overall pace of the game seems faster.

Stuff I can't be bothered with already is the Zsasz phone calls and the AR training. Other than that, it seems pretty enjoyable.

I'm pretty positive that whilst I've been swinging between rooftops, I've heard Bender shout obscenities at me too.

Also, that Hugo Strange boy keeps announcing XXX hours till Project Ten, I take it I don't have to complete a certain portion of the game before that reaches 0?

I just got a patch for this on steam:

elease notes:
We have just released a patch for Batman: Arkham City PC that provides fixes a variety of DX 11 issues, as well as fixes for a few other non-DX 11 related issues. The DX 11 fixes will apply for the majority of players, however, some specific Steam users will experience issues when running under DX 11.
With this latest patch, Steam users with the following Windows Operation Systems should avoid running the game under DX 11 until further notice:
- Windows Vista 32 bit
- Windows 7 32 bit
Users running Windows 7 32 bit or Windows Vista 32 bit should ONLY use DX 9 settings until a future patch that addresses this specific issue is released. We are actively working to address the remaining issue tied to DX 11 for users running 32 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Major fixes that this patch addresses are listed below.
- Performance / hitching issues have been greatly improved for running in DX 11.
- An issue with players running out of Video Memory or encountering a Rendering Thread Exceptions has been address. This was primarily affecting 32-bit Operating Systems.
- A progression block after defeating ***** has been fixed. This was issue occurred primarily on lower end computer setups and described as Batman not readying his Reverse Batarang.
- A crash that occurred when scrolling between the Character Bios and Arkham City Stories has been fixed.
- A crash that occurred when selecting

I recommend you do enough of the AR training (there's only about 5 of them) to get the gliding upgrade. It lets you grapple onto a building whilst gliding to give yourself a boost without landing. Gliding is 10x more useful once you get that. (Not to mention it makes those phone missions way easier).

No, don't worry about the announcements. Each announcement is tied into you completing part of the main story.

I'll slug them out then. They've not been mega difficult, more of an annoyance.

And that's cool. I like exploring so I don't want to have to rush to get certain elements of the game completed by a certain time.

The phones are a side mission that you can ignore until you're finished with the story if you want. I would recommend tracking down Bane though as that's a mission you can take care of while you're playing through the story.

Yeah, I met Bane. Given there was only 6 tanks to find, I figured it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to search them out (I've got 3 so far I think).

I also came across someone called the mysterious stranger (I think that was his name), his story seems relatively interesting so I think I'll make en effort to find out his secret locations too.

Spent most of the day with it and really liking what I've played so far.
