Help No mobile data connectivity

Lurker
Hi,
I recently purchased an Iphone 5 and nexus 4 (for wife). This is my first foray into the Android world.

However, I am facing an issue when I leave the house and WiFI is no longer available. The nexus 4 just does not connect to mobile network for data. I have fiddled with settings (even enabled 2g for a while) but nothing seems to work.

Me and my wife are both on the same network and Mobile data works seamlessly on my iphone.

Can someone please suggest me pointers on what to do next or what may be the issue.

THanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums! :)

Who's your carrier? Most of the time this is due to either improper sim provisioning or bad APN settings.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I am based in UK and my carrier is Lyca Mobile. I have the same carrier and its working fine on that. Is their something that can tell me if its wrong APN settings? I am afraid if I call the helpline they would just re-send the same settings again.

Go to settings>mobile networks>APN Names and make sure it says data.lycamobile.co.uk

The APN user Name should be "lmuk" and the APN password is "plus"

I've pretty much found that the universal setting for Lyca Mobile in the UK.

Thanks lunatic59. It worked like a charm. I think the issue is that nexus 4 is having trouble with the flash message configuration that Lyca is sending.

When you place a properly provisioned sim in a new phone, it's supposed to autodetect the apn settings. Sometimes it just doesn't get it right. I don't know if it's the phone, the sim or the network. I'd suspect the sim because getting a new sim usually fixes the problem.

Glad you're all sorted now. :)

Does the lyca SIM in UK works with Nexus 4 ? Can you guys please confirm me ?

Looking into the thread it looks like yes but when I have contacted google customer care , they have informed it works for Micro with any GSM network. This statement has confused me. I know lyca has micro SIM but not sure about GSM network?

Can you please revert me back on this ASAP ?

Hello, Supratimch - welcome to the fourms... thanks for joining!! :)

I'm pretty sure that we only have GSM in the UK... if the SIM is a UK SIM, then it will work in the Nexus 4 :)

Yes, one of the advantages of the UK mobile phone networks is they all work to the same single set of standards, unlike (say) the US where standards can and do vary from operator to operator.

Any unlocked phone will work with any operator's SIM in the UK giving the best connectivity supported by both SIM and phone.

I was almost certain that was the case in the UK :)

Lyca internet not working on Nexus 5. I tried settings suggested above (which are essentially same as given on lyca website) but no luck. any advice?

No it still doesn't work for me, I've tried everything, checking the sim fitting, the apn settings names and the mobile data, but still does not work in my android, someone please help me, I don't know what else to do

I even had internet settings sent automatically from lyca mobile when I first put my sim in, but that too did work either even though mobile data was on and internet apn was confirmed

Welcome to Android Forums Tar14. :)

Have you tried putting the sim into a different device just to verifiy the account is active and the sim is okay?

Yes but that to still doesn't work, it says cannot connect and i have properly checked everything but still nothing

So, if the sim doesn't work in another device, you can pretty much assume that the problem is with your sim/account.

What if the internet works in another device but not in the Android. I have e friend using LG Leon with all of the Apn settings correctly and settings sent from Lycamobile (twice). Still it has no mobile network. I placed the SIM inside an iPhone 5s, and the internet is working fine. I did factory reset on LG and still nothing.

The iPhone wasn't connected to WiFi ant the time, was it?

I'd still have to think it's an APN problem, or just perhaps you need a new sim card.

Well, I switched off the wifi and did the speed test via app just in case. It's doing pretty well. The APN is the same as the android phone. Just wonder how on iPhone is working and not on Android. Maybe Lyca itself has problems with the Androids. That's the second android device with that problem.
