Help No mobile hotspot?

So after doing an ruu restore on my phone there seems to be a couple of small problems. Well, small depending on your definition. For 1 I seem to have no recovery of any kind which to me now only means that I can never do any updates. But since I'm sure this phone will never be upgraded to jelly bean I'm really too concerned about a couple of tiny updates.

There is another issue that is troubling me even more though. My mobile hotspot icon seems to be completely missing from the phones app drawer. I just got a brand new Nexus 7 tablet and I was planning on using that mobile hotspot feature now no matter what I do I can't find it on my phone at all. I'm sure I got the right ruu because everything is the same as before the software version and everything is the same it's got the Virgin Mobile boot screen, but the mobile hotspot is missing. What could be the cause of this, and what can I do about it?

Edit: So I just opened holo launcher, looked in my app drawer, and there it is. It's only showing up in the app drawer on 3rd party launchers now, not my stock sense launcher. Wondering what's up with that.
 
It sounds like your carrier is Virgin Mobile. I was under the impression that using the OV as a mobile hotspot was not an option thru them...(although the phone was capable of doing it). If you have been able to do this, what was the trick?

My mistake... I see that I can pay an extra $15/month to get the hotspot option @ Virgim Mobile... I was hoping that someone had a less costly option or app...
 
I wish. $15 is the most expensive hotspot option ive seen. It's only ten at boost mobile. Its included in the $60 plan at cricket. But i only went with virgin because i got the phone for fifty bucks on cyber monday. But im on the $45 a month plan cuz thats all the minutes i need, so with the $15 hotspot it equals crickets $60.
 
If you root, there are apps that will work. You can try Barnacle without rooting as well, but some thinsg won't tether that way.
 
Last night I installed the latest version of FoxFi. My OV is on VM and I tried to connect it to my Nexus 7 using the FoxFi WiFi option. I have read multiple times that this would not work and that I'd have to connect via Bluetooth instead but I tried it anyway...nothing to lose...

The setup was easy and my Nexus 7 showed my FoxFi hotspot on the available WiFi list with a full signal. Unfortunately when I tried to connect to the FoxFi hotspot, the N7 was not able to either find the IP address or connect to it... It just kept cycling through trying to connect. Any ideas?? I did try the Bluetooth option on FoxFi. It connected easy. I was able to send a email and get to a web page. Other apps that needed the internet did not work though. I do not have any other WiFi devices so I could not tell if it was a N7 issue or the OV (that had the issue connecting via FoxFi WiFi).

If anyone has gotten this to work, please let all of us know.

I had the exact same thing happen when i tried it. Is it just foxfi that cannot connect to the nexus 7? If i were to pay the $15 to vm for hotspot would the normal one on the phone work with the nexus?
 
The nexus7 is unable to connect to an ad hoc network. Unfortunately, the HTC One V creates an ad hoc network when setting up a WiFi hotspot, as I believe most phones do. I tested it using my One V and my wife's nexus7. The nexus will see the hotspot, it just won't connect to it.
