Unlimited plans are a gimick meant to con consumers into higher priced plans.
Who is on the phone an unlimited number of minutes? No one. Gimick.
You already have unlimited mobile to mobile, nights, weekends.
Smartphones, most of the usage is data or texting (at exorbitant rates. Use AIM instead = free).
Basically no one should need "unlimited" minutes. For most smart phone users, a minimal talk plan with unlimited data would be plenty. Instant messaging clients can be used as a replacement for texting. VOIP clients exist and work surprisingly well even on 3G networks so you could even talk unlimited with only a data plan.
But the phone companies don't want that. Forget the $30 low end talk plan. Instead you need the $50 "unlimited" plan. +30 for data in each case.
