No need for Insurance?

So I'm on a family plan with my mom. I have a droid and Mommy dearest an lg dare. So basically her phone's touchscreen wouldn't work and she didn't have insurance on it. I told her to call verizon and put insurance on it before she did anything else. The day after she added insurance she called Verizon and they replaced it. Its like fraud but fun :). Anybody else?

It is fraud, but since they let you get away with it, whatever.

Usually, they only allow insurance to be added to an account within a certain amount of time, say 30 days.

FYI, the problem you described is a hardware issue and is covered under the manufacturer's warranty, not insurance. Insurance covers things like water damage, run over by car, lost, etc. that the warranty does not.

Yep, an unresponsive touch screen isn't an insurance issue (meaning you don't have to go through Asurion) if it's within the first year of owning the phone. You could have gotten a replacement from Verizon without having to add insurance. And, for the record, Asurion won't allow you to add insurance and then make a claim the next day. There's a waiting period after adding it (unless you add the insurance the day you purchase the phone) and they will do many things to make sure you haven't lost or wrecked the phone before you are allowed to make a claim. For example, they'll call you numerous times, leave you voicemails and texts (which you must respond to) and other such things to ensure people don't take advantage of the system.
