no NFC? Updates.

Considering that you're commiting to a new phone for the better part of 2 years, isn't the absence of NFC a big minus for the RAZR?
This seems like one of the next big things for cell phones. I use the Starbucks card app to pay quite often (just open the app, tap pay now and hold the phone up to the barcode reader).

This makes me want to consider the Samsung Nexus the front runner for a new phone. Not to mention ICS at launch and a higher resolution display.

As a related issue, since Google bought Motorola's cellphone division, will that change how quickly Android updates get to Motorola phones? For now, it seems like the general trend is for the Nexus phone to get the earliest updates.

In my opinion, not yet!

NFC is currently a great gimmick... but, in my opinion, it's still a gimmick. In today's world we already have issues with unscrupulous individuals stealing credit card information by walking through crowded locations with gear that activate the magnetic tags in credit cards. And, to be honest, NFC is considered by some to be RFID for electronic devices.

And with the recent announcement that SSL on the web is now vulnerable to exploit, is NFC mature enough a technology to adequately protect your credit card information from exploit?
