No notifications from 3rd party sms app

I want to use a 3rd party text app, namely GoSms however I get no notifications. I've even gone into the app itself in the settings menu and made sure notification is on. I went to a Motorola forum and learned that 3rd party apps do not give notification unless you disable Summit RCS but I cannot disable that. The button is greyed out. Cam anyone help? I hate the stock sms app. I also hate the stock Android emojis. Using a 3rd party keyboard doesn't give me different emojis either. I tried several, the emojis are the same.

You are correct, most 3rd party apps will not give you notifications.
You would need to install a different launcher, such as Nova launcher, and Tesla unread app in combination.
I use Nova launcher prime, and never looked back at my old, boring home screen and boring icons.

I think @Dannydet has already answered the badge notification problem with GO SMS and other third-party apps, and the Moto.

You should note, with "free" GO apps you may get advertising, specifically undesirable extra lock-screens with ads..."Dismiss to unlock" things. Also "free" GO apps phone home your personal data to the GO company servers in Beijing or Guangzhou, for aggregation and sale to any third-party advertisers.

Have you looked at Textra and chompSMS? Both seem to provide a notification of incoming SMS on my Moto Z2 Force. I use chompSMS.

I have not looked at those in over a year probably. I've always used Go, the paid version. I'll look into them I guess. If they have the option like Go to use different emojis then I'll try them out but if I'll still be stuck with the android emojis then I'll just use stock sms. I looked into disabling the summit RCS but have no idea how to use an android platform tool so I gave up on that option.

chompSMS is $1.59/yr subscription. It is the best I ever found.

Who's your carrier? I tried both chomp and Textra with same result. Phone doesn't make a sound when a text comes. Apparently it's a Tmobile issue.
