Hi
I'm a new owner of a Galaxy Ace but i cannot turn on proximity sensor.

When I press

"menu" - "settings" - "call settings" - "additional settings"

I am offered the following

"Caller ID"
"Call waiting"

But no "Turn on proximity sensor"

Any suggestions would be welcome

its always on, when you make a call and put the phone to your ear, you see the screen light goes off? that's what the proximity sensor does:D

Tks Chrismay
do you know why i cant access the on/off option

It turns itself on/off automaticaly when you make or receive a call, like Chris said it's only purpose is to turn the screen on/off when you move it to/from your ear.
There is no option to turn it on or off.

Tks Gammer
the reason i thought there was an option is because the user manual on the samsung website says so
anyway tks again

Like Chris said, Proximity sensor's only purpose is to turn the screen on/off when you move it to/from your ear.
However, if you really need to turn it on/off in 2.2.x; download 'elixir' free app from android market. It let u see all the sensors in the phone and allows enabling/disabling them. It also gives a lot more information about phone's other components as well as environment vars.
