Root No root on Razr

Have rooted two droid bionics and three razr, ALL with no problems. This last Razr that I got I just cant seem to get it to root. Noticed that its installing the files to the phone, but read only. Is there some update that motorola or verizon put on this latest one that is preventing the root. Also notice that after I extracted the files, theres no run/bat file , just a run file. Have tried 4 different sites extracted and run, and o"yes have the latest 5.5.0motorola drives on laptop. Any thoughts. Thanks

just this Motorola will my guess eventually lock that bootloader like a chastity belt that even the future nasa scientist will try with no success in unlocking that thing.

Can you possibly find a less helpful approach here?

To the OP: you're probably using an old root method that isn't compatible with the current software you have. If you tell us what software version you have we can probably get you rooted inside 5 minutes.

EDIT: ltmgill, I misunderstood what you were saying. Sorry for lumping you with the other guy.

Are you saying Motofail method of rooting won't work on the latest Razr Update? I think my post leads the OP in the right direction without having to type out a whole "how to" which is already on this site if you look and teaches how to find the info for themselves.

I think he's saying that methods vary depending on if he is on 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 and that a method for one is useless for the other (and vice versa).

Without knowing which build the OP is on, all any of us can do is speculate a to what the problem (and subsequently the solution) actually is.

:)

While we're on the subject, I'd like to root my new Razr Maxx in order to do some customization/tweaking with ROM Toolbox, freeze some of the Verizon bloat, and do some backing up via CWM/ROM Manager and Titanium Backup. I'm currently on 2.3.6.

I've done a bit of reading and it appears that the best method of rooting the Razr so far is an exploit described here:

Security Research by Dan Rosenberg

Is this still valid, and does it work? Is there a better way? Ideally, I'd like to be able to unroot whenever the ICS update comes out, but (despite absolutely loving the Maxx and its incredible battery life and performance) I'm also feeling somewhat constricted by the lack of customization I was used to with my previous phone (Droid X running Liberty 3). I'd appreciate any guidance someone could throw my way.

On a related note, can someone point me at a clean SBF file for the Razr/Maxx? I haven't found it yet, and am very reluctant to begin the rooting process without having an SBF file in case something goes catastrophically wrong. Thanks!

Thanks, Bugly! I guess the 'unofficial' official SBF is the best thing out there right now.

Do you (or does anyone else) have any thoughts on the rooting questions?

AFAIK, the batman method seems to be most comprehensive, most of the tools you need, including unroot, are included in one neat little package.
