has screen timeout been replaced with the sleep setting? if so it doesnt have a never timeout option. the max is 10 minutes.

mine goes to sleep in less than 10 minutes. havent timed it to be exact. they need to bring never timeout back. when i am playing music i like to keep my screen on. anyone have an app that will keep the screen on with ICS?

You can go in under the Developer Options and tell it to Stay Awake while charging, but I haven't found any other options yet, especially for while not charging.

I have sleep set to 2 minutes, but it doesn't turn the screen off after that amount of time. If I power cycle, then it'll turn the screen off after 2 minutes. But then later (after doing who knows what), it doesn't turn the screen off again. It worked fine before ICS. Any ideas?

Droid Razr, stock ICS from OTA, Verizon

Not sure what's causing it to do that. Did you do any kind of reset after installing ICS. Some say it doesn't matter if you do or don't and others say it makes a difference as things may conflict even though shouldn't.

I didn't do any reset. Just cycled power. Upon further analysis, I don't need to cycle power to get it to sleep. It's just that it sleeps sometimes & not other times.

I noticed this too, once I realized what it was it stopped! So Slacker radio has an option "never sleep" and I had that option on.. which would allow my slacker app to never turn the screen off--well I noticed that it would never let my screen sleep ever! So I would reboot phone off/on.. then one day I decided to take that option off Slacker and voila! Everything was back to normal. So maybe look at your applications and see if you have an app with such a setting turned on!

Great idea. I just got a flashlight app (Tiny Flashlight+LED). After using it, I would tap the Android home button, thinking that would exit the app. Maybe it does, but the "stay on" flag is still set. If, after using the app, I tap the Android back button, then the screen times out as expected. So, now I know. I just have to remember to use back, rather than home.

Could anyone explain why using the different buttons make the outcome different?

Also, does anyone know of a flashlight app that won't have this problem? I'm sure I'll forget at some point, & I'll run down my battery. I like the flashlight app, except for the screen staying on problem. All I need is to be able to use the LED (camera light) & the screen (on with white color).

There is a question no one seems to be asking...what were Android or Verizon or who ever made this call thinking? In what world would they think people didn't use the "never time out" option? It sure would be nice if these developers would ask the users what they use and don't use before they just started screwing with things.

I don't know if it will work with ICS (haven't updated my new MAXX yet), but for a very long time, I have been using an app called "Screen On" by KONSTANTINOS POLYCHRONIS. It allows you to select any app that you want the screen to stay on while using.

Ditto! This new ics falls short in many places!
