I have an unlocked Galaxy S i9000 which I got in December from Vodafone in Greece. I took it back to the US with me and I put a T-mobile SIM into it, powered it up, and was good to go. All of my services worked fine, I did not have to change any settings on the phone at all. The phone line for this SIM already had internet/data on the account.
After 5 weeks of using the phone with the same SIM, I decided to take a different T-Mobile SIM from another one of my lines and use it in the phone. Since this particular line had previously been inside of a T-Mobile modem/router for use in the T-Mobile at Home plan, it did not include data services so I called T-Mobile to add data services to this phone number. The rep told me they would provision this and it would work in about 2 hours. I retrieved the SIM card from the modem/router installed it into the Galaxy S, but after 2 hours I did not have any service. I waited a few more hours, still no service, and then in the morning, still with no service, I put the old SIM back into the phone - and phone I had no service (even though 24 hours earlier it worked fine).
I took the new SIMM (the one that came out of the modem/router) and put it into another cell phone, and it worked fine.
I went to T-Mobile to see if they had any ideas. They said maybe the SIMM card was not being read by the phone, that it was an older version, so they replaced it with a new one, but it still did not work.
I went to a cell phone repair place and they played around with it for a little while and then told me they had no idea what was wrong.
I am in the States now, the phone came from Athens so I can't easily take it back to the Vodaphone store for an exchange. I called Samsung in the US and they told me they do not provide service for this model(!!!)
I am really perplexed. The phone works fine via WiFi - I really believe that there is a software setting that needs tweeking (although I don't really see why, it worked without any tweeking before).
I have restored the factory defaults to the phone.
I tried adding a VPN based on settings I found on the web for Tmo. It did not work and then I restored factory defaults again.
I have not done any system updates, flashing, rooting, etc etc (I am not incredibly tech saavy but I can follow directions)
Does anyone have ideas or suggestions??
Thanks!
