I had this problem about 6 months ago, and fixed it with a combination of cleaning with alcohol, resetting the card, and adding a bit of tape to the back of the card to ensure a good seat.
Now the problem is back again. I've tried all the home remedies above, as well as multiple reboots and swapping in and out of airplane mode. Nothing works - my phone refuses to acknowledge the existence of its sim card.
Any advice? I'm going overseas in 6 days, and I rather assumed I'd have a working phone with me.
